Re: My family are currently Muslim, I want to convert them to atheism, how do I do thThis is surprisingly good advise, i'll bear it in mind, thank you.(Original post by Pzychotic)
Generally I would say leave it. They are free to believe what they want to, and as others have already said, there is a great risk you will lose them entirely. I empathise with your frustrations, but you have to ask yourself if they would be happier as atheists or not. If you don't think they will disown you, there is no harm in possibly explaining your point of view, and how you arrived to it. Be sure to talk very calmly, politely and explain things down to the smallest detail. At no point should you get agitated or frustrated, even thought you might feel like it sometimes, or you will lose their respect for your opinion.
If you think explaining your beliefs in one go is too much of a challenge, try starting off with something small. If a religious discussion ever arises between your family, you can interject with a small portion of your opinion, without coming out completely as an atheist. For example, if they were talking about prayer, you could discuss whether or not praying for things can change the future, if God is omniscient and already knows the future. Just small philosophical points like this can eventually build you up to explaining your entire view.

Re: My family are currently Muslim, I want to convert them to atheism, how do I do thYou can believe something without being rude. Trying to convert people to atheism is just as annoying as trying to convert people to theism, and I'm speaking as someone who's experienced both sides. Also there's a difference between "I don't believe God exists" and "God doesn't exist". Why can't people just live and let live? There'd be a lot less conflict if we did.(Original post by Extended Arpeggio)
How about you shut the **** up you miserable excuse for a human being. God doesn't exist. Besides that, the OP has every right to try and change his families beliefs, just as theists like you everywhere try to convert people to their "One true religion", out of thousands. You're a shame on the entire human race, you still haven't figured out that God/Allah, whoever you want to refer to him as, doesn't exist. Get a clue, brah. -
Re: My family are currently Muslim, I want to convert them to atheism, how do I do thlol, please save the self righteousness. "ideas they never had" and "i'm doing them a favor". it couldn't at all be a 'dialogue' where you exchange ideas, and listen to one another? oh no that would be too difficult(Original post by Triple_H)
I'm not going to be rude or aggressive or crazy. I just want to approach them with ideas and thoughts they've never ever had before. I'm doing them a favour.
ps: i've been full circle on this (i guess you've only got pass the semi-circle) -

Re: My family are currently Muslim, I want to convert them to atheism, how do I do thNot quite, its mearly an exchange of ideas; the progotive is on the person themselves to 'convert'.(Original post by Annoying-Mouse)
Also, lol at all the people against conversions. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it. If any of you have argued you've attempted to convert someone. -
Re: My family are currently Muslim, I want to convert them to atheism, how do I do thOh yes. I definitely want a dialogue where we exchange ideas. But I do see it as me opening their eyes as they're currently very disillusioned not even considering their could be another side of the story.(Original post by searchingshadow)

and this is exactly what is wrong with religious sheep.
Am i talking to you pig. -
Re: My family are currently Muslim, I want to convert them to atheism, how do I do thYou've still attempted which is what I said. Why are you exchanging ideas? In the hopes they'll accept it.(Original post by searchingshadow)

Re: My family are currently Muslim, I want to convert them to atheism, how do I do thIt's growing only because of the 'kinship' which exists between the majority of the Asian/Muslim society. There is absolutely no correlation between a validity of a religion against no. of followers.(Original post by Whatever9999)

I would say: a person using his/her own logic and not limiting her/his imagination (which to theists is a gift by god) is much commendable then a bunch of illiterate, superstitious followers(not that all theists are but for most they limit their reasoning,to them questioning some uncertainty is a sin or so they are told).
What evidence to you speak of?
Could you kindly elaborate them.

Re: My family are currently Muslim, I want to convert them to atheism, how do I do thI don't think that's always the case. It's often mutually beneficial that both parties have a decent level of respect and understanding for each other's beliefs and values.(Original post by Annoying-Mouse)

Re: My family are currently Muslim, I want to convert them to atheism, how do I do thWhy is he an idiot(if nothing he has used his own logic/reasoning which has been bestowed by the same creator)? and by becoming complete what has humanity gained.(Original post by Extricated)
You're an idiot, attempting to convert muslims to atheism when Islam is the complete religion.
I am eager for your response to this.
In response to OP, have a sensible debate and try to stay calm. I usually lose my cool during such debates. Start to question them for instance: What's the purpose of creation ? why is the east so backward ? polygamy, women rights.

Re: My family are currently Muslim, I want to convert them to atheism, how do I do thAnd you're not being closed-minded at all are you?(Original post by Triple_H)
Are there any non aggressive good texts I can use to show them how irrational and silly they're being?
I want to stop them being closed minded and be free and happy. Seeing them wake up every day in the morning is so annoying when there is no god out there. Are there any links or calm clever lectures I can show them that'll disillusion them? Surely calm reason and logic will work on them.
Thank you for all your advise
I'm not muslim but the bit in bold is quite rude. Are you saying a person cannot be muslim and happy? -
Re: My family are currently Muslim, I want to convert them to atheism, how do I do thThat's not mutually-exclusive. Most (if not all) people still want the other person to embrace their viewpoint.(Original post by Pzychotic)
