Help me OMG the accommodation seems really expensive (compared to UEA)

Just firmed them the other day but have no idea of which one to choose?

Ideally somewhere that is nice but also cheap - the brochure is a bit difficult to follow.

What do you recommend?

I have just been to the open day and can awnser some questions although (frustratingly) i did not get to see all the accomodation. What do you mean by cheap?

Okay well im not sure where 'reasonably priced' falls for you but i will tell you all i know!

My sister goes to UEA and you get nice halls for a cheap price there but its so much more expensive at sussex.

east slope is the cheapest at about 3,120 a year. Its pretty dingy and humble but good if you want to save money, i wanted to stay here but i am put off because it has a reputation as being a place where its not easy to study at night and there is lots of partying and mayhem. In the words of somone else's post i read " it just depends as to weather you want to live in the party or go home"

anyway,

park village- 3,490 a year
park houses- 3,818 a year

did not see those. probably a bit nicer and a bit quiter.

lewes court phase 1- 4,149 a year and very nice! there is a video on youtube you will find helpfull if you type it in.
Brighthelm is 4.301 a year, i did not see but i think its much the same as phase 1 but with washing machines.

those are all the non en suite ones.
if you really want a bathroom then i would reccomed lewes court phase 2- it is 4,726 a year and really really nice. this is almost the cheapest of the en suite room, bar stamner court at 4,641 a year which is across from the university or somthing making it less desirable.

above that is northfield and swanborough at 4,878 a year, i did not see northfield but i saw swanbourough and personally despite its muched bigger price tage and more modern desighn that lewes court phase 2 i think that phase 2 is actually much nicer and more homely.

HI thanks for all the information. I am also looking to start my course at sussex this september but I am a bit confused. I am looking to share a room with a girl rather than single room. Are there the prices for single room or shared?I was wondering if you think it would be suitable? As it would be quite cheaper that way. Which halls would be better If I am sharing with other person as sharing would reduce half the price anyway.
Also does sharing a room mean that we will be living in same room using one bathroom? does lewes court phase has shared room?

As far as I'm aware (third year) the only shared rooms on campus are in East Slope. You would share a room with one person, and then share shower and toilet facilities with up to 8 others. I would personally not recommend sharing a room in East Slope if you're after a place for quiet study as it's known as the loudest place on campus to live i.e. this is where you live if you want to hold/go to a lot of parties........although you could always go to the library. But still!

so sussex has a range from £85 to £125.

on the contrary, brighton, which is just four miles nearer to the cost, has a range of £95 to £190. so yeah, it could be a lot worse.

£85 is average to cheap to be honest, yes uea will be cheaper but unis in cities will be more expensive. im shocked how cheap sussex is, considering its a tourist area and how expensive it is to live by the sea normally! thats what loans are for anyway, if you're that fussed then just choose the £85 accommodation?

I have only received papers about being a Home/EU student or International Student since I live in Holland. But nothing concerning accommodation.
Should I ask Sussex about it?

But most students (95% I'd guess) live in Brighton for their second and third years, and some live in the city for their first year too. But it is possible to find a room in a student house in Lewes Road area (half way to town, half way to uni) for £75ish a week..

I live in the centre of Brighton though and it's definitely more expensive...but don't have to pay to go to town

I emailed them last night cause I went to the open day yesterday and the speaker said we should have been applying for accommodation online from March...?? But then said we would be sent forms so I was a bit confuzzled. Anyway they replied this morning and the link is

I took a risk and put Northfield first, then Lewis Court 2, Swanborough and Stanmer - how bout you?

I chose Swanborough first, then Lewes Court 2, Northfield and then Stanmer.
I don't think I would really mind the place I live though. Northfield is the new one right? Why a risk?

Yeh Northfield is the brand new one behind Lewes Court at the back of campus. Um its just because there are rumours that it will be mostly international students which could make it harder to socialise, and socialising is one of the main reasons I'm going to uni but we only get to go on campus for one year so I didn't want to miss out on Northfield if its going to be awesome. And if it has a swimming pool it will be

The guide for my campus tour the other day mentioned it! First time I'd heard, but I did know it has its own bar etc. Its not completely unlikely as they don't have a pool onsite already. Fingers crossed. Hope it has water slides

Interesting, I've only heard that it will have a social centre including a cafe and laundrette. No bar/swimming pool that I know of....but hey, it's big enough to hide one that us non-campus guide students don't know/haven't been told about
