MSc Investment Management at Cass
My friend don't have an account of TSR. She got offer from MSc Investment Management at Cass and she would like to hear your opinions about this course? Is Cass a good business school? and Is it true that grading system at Cass is not good? more than half of class failed
Is Cass based on practical more than other schools?
She also got offer from MSc Finance from Warwick and MSc Finance and Investment from Edinburgh. Between these three, which one is the best choice?
Thank you very much

Re: MSc Investment Management at Cass
I had the same choice, MSc Finance at Imperial and Warwick plus MSc Investment Management at Cass.
I was keen on choosing Imperial due to the city life and their quantitative approach to teaching but the high tuition fee became a problem for me so I am going with Warwick instead. -
Re: MSc Investment Management at Cass
I heard this thing about lots of people failing too in one of the other departments. I went to the information session the other day and asked about this apparently it is not true. Also the drop out rate is very low, think they said something really high like 95% of people would recommend the course to others.
I have an offer for Investment Management, I was expecting Cass to be 'ok'.
I have to admit I was quite impressed. Having said that I come from an average uni and haven't visited the so called top 6. From what they have said, it seems they have been constantly making pretty good improvements. That is, if it lives up to what they claim...
Best thing to do is to go visit the business schools. Also it depends your friend wants to pursue, investment management is more specialised than finance.Last edited by jasonlui; 15-04-2011 at 04:05. -
Re: MSc Investment Management at Cass
That OG guy is ex Warwick so I would take what he says with a large dose of salt.
I hear W ' demand ' a 1st class so if you can get an offer why not try Oxbridge, the requirements is the same and the costs is lower ! The name is much bigger of course.
Also UCL or St Andrew's are also cheaper.
Why bother with Warwick ? -
Re: MSc Investment Management at CassMy friend does not live in UK so it is difficult for her to visit the school, Could you please share information that you get from the information session(Original post by jasonlui)

Re: MSc Investment Management at CassWell they have the same tuition fee and Warwick is more recognized in the city than Cass and me being a foreign student, an international reputation also played an integral part in my decision. Although Cass holds an int. rep it's just not up there with Warwick/Imperial where I'm from (Scandinavia).(Original post by Evejung)
Suede, Why did you choose Warwick over Cass?
Your information might help my friend make a decision easier
Thx very much
Additionally I had a talk with the course director at cass and some firms and the Cass course is pretty niched in terms of asset management, which could make it harder to break in to other areas of finance (This is just feedback I got, so take it with a grain of salt, in theory you could do history at oxbridge and still get in IB) wheras I can still choose Asset Management as elective courses in other universities whilst still getting the broader and more diverse programme of a Finance course.
Warwicks placement in FO roles also surpasses Cass by miles and the general consensus seems to be that Warwick is a tier above Cass.
The last thing, which also proves Warwick/Imperials superior reputation to some extent, is that if I attend LSE/Oxbdrige/Imperial/Warwick/UCL I get an additional scholarship from our government (just £6500 but still..) due to their recognized reputation worldwide. You do not get this at Cass which just made cass a distinct no from me.
It's still a good school though and if you are dead-set on entering the buy-side I am sure the Inv Mgmt course is a great choice. Keep in mind though that I made this decision based on my situation/interests etc so be sure to think it through properly and not get swayed too much by other people. In the end it's you who are paying the fees, doing the course and eventually applying for jobs.
In the end Warwick was cheaper (ended up at £16k due to additional funding vs Cass which is £21.5k), has a better reputation, appealed to me more based on course content, offers a broader course structure and has a great placement record in FO roles.
Hope this helps.Last edited by suede; 15-04-2011 at 07:50. -
Re: MSc Investment Management at Cass
Hi everyone,
I got offers for
MSc Investment Management - Cass
MSc Financial Computing - UCL
MSc Finance and Investment - Edinburgh
Not really sure which one I should go for. The UCL course is supposed to be great in setting you up with a MO/BO job in IT, but its fairly new and I'm unsure about it. Right now I am tending more towards CASS. Any opinions about which MSc I should pick?
Thank you -
