Re: Architecture Applicants for 2012 entry (& Offers - for when they're given!)hey well there could be many reasons for example i have heard that bath method of studying is very much based on theory and there is less on the aesthetical or engineering side of it ( but that is just rumours), also bath is a 100 times harder to get in compared to manchester so maybe they are above his predicted grades? Oh also Norman Foster ( i hope u know who that is) went to manchester so they taught a lord of architecture?(Original post by 88888)
Anyone is curently in the university of Bath or already graduated from there doing Architecture course???
I have seen the ranking of Architecture on the leagle table, Bath is even the top one which really impresses me, but I heard a pupil from my school that his friend chose Manchester School of Architecture rather than Bath( not because of location or money).
What do you think of Bath then???
What makes it to stand on the top of the ranking?
Anyone have any little idea will be really apprecited!!

Congratulations to all of you! I really hope all of you make your offers, I will be applying this year, possibly to sheffield, ucl, cambridge, cardiff and edinburgh, I need some help with my portfolio, it would be extremely helpful if you could post a link to your portfolio, or outline pieces, thank you so much
i want to apply to those as well!! i really want to get into cambridge or ucl, but i doubt i will get into to cambridge- i would be above the grade needed but i am not a genius...

Re: Architecture Applicants for 2012 entry (& Offers - for when they're given!)Well somebody just started a thread(Original post by clareyyyyyyy)
not intended in a b*tchy way at all but you could start one yourself?
idk really
not sure when this one was started but given that you guys are just starting looking at universities I'd say now's as good a time as any
I'm so happy to experience this. Would be nice if some guys from 2012 entry shared some suggestions on choosing uni, how interviews work and stuff like that

Besides Sheffield, GSA and Cardiff where else have you applied?
Did Cardiff give you the reason why they rejected you?
Have you been accepted to Sheffield yet? Or still working on it? -
Re: Architecture Applicants for 2012 entry (& Offers - for when they're given!)sheffield accepted me in the end and i firmed them! :)(Original post by Winchester)

cardiff rejected me because my portfolio was too heavily weighted towards observational and artists work - guess they wanted more experimental work which i didn't really have at the time to show them...
I also applied to Bath and Edinburgh, both of whom made me offers but I didn't really like the course as much as at Sheffield/GSA :) -
Re: Architecture Applicants for 2012 entry (& Offers - for when they're given!)Were the offers hard from Edinburgh and Bath? Did you go to some interviews? If yes, was it hard?(Original post by clareyyyyyyy)

Congratulations on being accepted to Sheffield! Some of my friends applied to Sheffield and Edinburgh but they got rejections without explanations so I'm kind of shy applying to them.

Re: Architecture Applicants for 2012 entry (& Offers - for when they're given!)Make sure when you choose universities that you have a mix, some with grades that can be easily met, others that are more challenging. And make sure you have researched them well, sometimes visiting is the only way to be sure. I thought I would like Kent and Dundee before going, but I changed my mind after open days.(Original post by Winchester)

Also if you think you will be able to make a strong portfolio then applying to universities where they ask for them is a good idea, it may set you apart from others. I you have any questions I'm happy to help and I'm sure there will be a lot of people willing to help on here, after all we've all been through the process

Re: Architecture Applicants for 2012 entry (& Offers - for when they're given!)both the bath and edinburgh offers were on personal statements/grades alone(Original post by Winchester)

i had an interview at GSA and i totally thought I'd ruined it because the only oppurtunity they gave me to talk about architecture and stuff i kind of blew. had to do a questionnaire after though and managed to get a few references in there so all was good i guess
the only reason i know why my rejection from cardiff was, was because i emailed them and asked - its a case of wording it right usually though, because i was only allowed one question - i knew it was my portfolio that let me down so i asked what was wrong with my portfolio as my grades/personal statement were pretty good (even if i do say so myself). -
Re: Architecture Applicants for 2012 entry (& Offers - for when they're given!)Thank you for your suggestions, I've been thinking of applying to Central Saint Martins for the same reason as you mentioned that some unis value strong portfolio.(Original post by Claire888)

Well, I'm also thinking of applying to GSA, hope I pass the interview, I've always been men of few words and I'm foreigner, so I'm going to need luck.(Original post by clareyyyyyyy)

Re: Architecture Applicants for 2012 entry (& Offers - for when they're given!)Maybe you could tell what made you to change your decision? I probably won't have opportunity to attend an open day, only the interview, so would be nice to know such things even though it's not from my own perspective.(Original post by Claire888)

Re: Architecture Applicants for 2012 entry (& Offers - for when they're given!)Ok well, the first thing that annoyed me was that right before the open day, in early October they changed their grade requirements quite dramatically. It was originally looking like a good insurance but then i think the grades rose to AAB, but I can't really remember. Anyway so that meant I went to the open day now having to consider it as a possible form so had to like it. I was a bit underwhelmed, the studios seemed a bit pokey and dark, the library wasn't amazing for architecture and the lectures didn't seem as interested or enthusiastic as at other places I had visited. Also the accommodation was weird, it was a series of houses set out like a village, its hard to describe but just felt odd to me. Anyway after the trip I decided against it because it couldn't compete with Nottingham, Sheffield or Newcastle in reputation or facilities. So those were my reasons, obviously that is personal, I know others probably like the things that I didn't, but that will always be the case. So you need to research as best you can, to get an overall feeling of atmosphere from the universities.(Original post by Winchester)

Re: Architecture Applicants for 2012 entry (& Offers - for when they're given!)
I've received unconditional offers from CSM, Westminster and London Metropolitan for a BA in architecture. I'm finding it really hard to choose which one to go to. Does anyone have any insight on the courses in these places? If anyone has accepted or rejected any of these places for this course i'd really like to know how you made your decision and what you think of the university you're in.
Really appreciate any info! -
Re: Architecture Applicants for 2012 entry (& Offers - for when they're given!)
I don't study architecture but I'm a student at london Metropolitan, so what I can say is that if you do decide to study at london Metropolitan they will give you a lot of support and advice in regards to stuydying on your chosen course. they campus (depending which one you study at) is a great place to study. I personally enjoy being a student here, but in regards to your chosen call ring the admissions office on - 020 7133 4200 for enquiries.

Hope this slightly helps x -
Re: Architecture Applicants for 2012 entry (& Offers - for when they're given!)i have offers from cambridge, csm, westminster and the aa. i declined the westminster offer, because they offered me a place last year, when my portfolio wasn't all that good (i think), and this year i got offers from places that rejected me last year. if i get a scholarship then i'm going to the aa, if not, i'm going to csm. i declined the cambridge offer, because their course is much theoretical (ie much bigger emphasis on history of architecture and other theoretical subjects) than what i want, which is a more practical approach. i don't know much about the london met course, they are supposed to have improved a lot lately. i would choose csm out of these three, but that's simply because it's being a really great art school.(Original post by benjyevans)

Re: Architecture Applicants for 2012 entry (& Offers - for when they're given!)i thought it was AAB(Original post by Meh_)
Isn't the standard offer quite low already in comparison to other major arch schools? Like for a-levels it's ABB. Considering this I really doubt that they would be lenient when it comes to grades...and surely you know how competitive the Bartlett is. -
Re: Architecture Applicants for 2012 entry (& Offers - for when they're given!)Just had a look on their website, and yep, they have raised the grade requirement to AAB for 2013 entries.(Original post by notsure)
