student finance applications

I've applied to uni this year, and have received my offers, i have accepted 2 of them. i've also applied to a internship for a year at a company, and i'm current waiting to hear back concerning interviews (i've had 1, and have potentially 2 to go) i want to go to this internship if i am successful, but if i dont get in i would like to university instead. i've been told to apply for student finance but the deadline is 31 may, and im not sure if i will hear about my internship before then. if i do apply to student finance, is it possible to cancel it after the deadline and before university would start. does anyone have any ideas on what to do?
