Thanks for the quick replies. I usually shop at ASOS but held off buying OS from there because didn't know how they'd fit. Think I'll get some now.
Yeah I have to agree the fit is pretty good. Although make sur eyou get the 100% cotton ones.. I made the mistake of not looking at material first and ordered one which was 20% polyester or something -.-

It depends what would fit in with the rest of your wardrobe better.
Light washed jeans are very Joey Essex though.

One does not come to the male fashion thread to discuss somebody called Joey Essex :curious:

That's a trend for summer. As are:
Short sleeve shirts worn over a tee shirt or vest
Print shirts (floral, Hawaiian and stripes especially)
Sandals (gladiator or otherwise, but nothing chunky)
    Lightweight sweatshirts
    Linen shorts/trousers/linen in general
    Safari style jackets/shirts
    More coloured chinos
    Bracelets
And basically any trend from the past 2 years, because nobody cares enough about men's fashion to come up with anything new.

This summer will also be brought to you by the colours blue, beige and red, with a little green and yellow. Basically any colour apart from purple (so obviously do purple because noone will expect it!).

Someone mentioned that 90s fashion was making a comeback, but I assume (hope) they were talking about women.

Men's fashion at the moment appears to only include the colours blue, pink and purple. Every time I look for a new shirt for work, those are the only ****ing options. I want a yellow shirt dammit.

Although the skinny jeans 80s revival won't go away for a few years yet, 90s fashion has been sneaking back for a while. Boat shoes were mid-90s fashion (I had a pair in 1996). Lumberjack shirts were early 90s fashion.

I could have told you that re: shirts. I remember when I went shirt shopping, all the shirt and suit shops were the same. If you want any vaguely different colours you'll have to avoid places like Hawes and Curtis (whose website alone tells me that of 292 shirts for men, only 5 are red and 2 are orange, and of those none are plain solid colours).

You'll have to hit up high street places that don't just do suiting like Reiss, Ted Baker, etc. Banana Republic actually have a pretty decent range of work-appropriate shirts, at fairly reasonable prices too. They even have a yellow one

When it comes to 90s fashion I think it's difficult to see past grunge, skaters and everything being horrifically baggy and unwashed.

Are British men ready to wear prints?

Judging by the comments section that would be a resounding no. More fool me for reading online comments on the Guardian though.

In fairness the author is a twat for thinking the average male Guardian reader could look beyond catwalk photos.

Personally I've been after nice prints for a while. Got a really nice short-sleeved print shirt from River Island actually, but along with most of my summer stuff I haven't had a chance to wear it yet

I know what you mean, if the sleeves are too baggy you can end up looking like a postman.
Actually I tried on a shirt I really liked the colour of, but the sleeves were baggy and looked awful. The sales assistant then toldme to try turning up the sleeves and it made a world of difference.

I wouldn't suggest wearing them in a work/formal situation though, and definitely not with a tie. You shouldn't treat them as a substitute for long sleeved shirts with rolled-up sleeves.

That's a (sorry) trend for summer. As are:
Short sleeve shirts worn over a tee shirt or vest
Print shirts (floral, Hawaiian and stripes especially)- it's alright beachwear , I used to see that around
Sandals (gladiator or otherwise, but nothing chunky)For man, from a catwalk, I'm interested in your outfits with your sandals.
And basically any trend from the past 2 years, because nobody cares enough about men's fashion to come up with anything new. (Obviously, and it's the same for women basically. You can mixup different trends.)

And it's hard to find a slim fit shirt ... in different color than blue/pink/white.

And if you want some print shirt -> Prada they started this trend.

The only time I wear a short sleeved shirt is when I have a v neck sweater on that I'm not intending to take off.

In that situation they're fine. Other than that, I'm not really a fan.

I think it depends on the print. I don't like Hawaiin prints or anything Versace does myself, but some people manage to pull them (Hawaiin; Versace just looks odd in my opinion) off (I think of Bruce Campbell in Burn Notice). Although I got a lovely patterned jumper last year that I love wearing when I am relaxing at home; it seems to remind people I know of the 1970s. I am taking that as a good thing!

Also, perhaps you can all help me. I am looking for some madras checked shorts to wear whilst I visit Cornwall this summer. They don't need to be great quality (as I am not a lover of shorts), and I have a budget of £40 for two pairs. I found some nice ones on Banana Republic, but they are out of my price range. I will also add that I like my shorts to end just above my knee; a lot of chino shorts I have been seeing look suspiciously short to me this year.

Precisely, I just don't think they look very good. I don't own a single one so I'd have to go to a shop to try on..

Hoping to hit up Oxford Street today, i'll see if there is anything that takes my fancy.

I only just got a pair of sandals so I haven't actually had much chance to wear them, but I plan on wearing them with shorts or rolled up chinos (at work as I can't wear shorts).

Print shirts are everywhere, but I'm not in a mad hurry. Like I said I already got one from River Island, as well as a subtle Hawaiin shirt from AllSaints, a long sleeve zig zag polo from Reiss, an Aztec-style print polo from River Island and two print shirts from Reiss I got in sale. I'm on the look out for some nice unusual tee shirts though, but definitely not in a mad hurry.

I think they're nice worn casually for summer, but you and I disagree about combining smart and casual so I'm not surprised :p:

It all depends on the print in question. I mean I like Hawaiin shirts in theory but in practice I dislike about 95% of all the ones I've seen in shops. With complex/loud prints it can be very hit and miss because a design can be really nice but have one element that ruins it for you (for example Aztec prints, they combine a lot of colours I really like but almost always have some turquoise or light blue that ruins it for me). The good thing though is that when you do find a print you really like it will be something that completely suits you and your own individual style.

As for shorts I'm sorry but the Banana Republic shorts are the cheapest madras shorts I've seen. I think Topman do shorts for around £30 as do Zara but the only £20 shorts I've seen were on the clearance section of ASOS.
If you wait around a month you'll be able to get some on sale from Banana Republic though. Also you may want to sign up to their mailing list as not only will they tell you of special offers (30% off everything if you use the code SAVE30 online between 5pm and 11.59pm this Thursday btw) but you'll get a 15% off voucher as well :fyi:

Actually thinking about it I have a blue and white hawaiian shirt.

    Spoiler:
    Show
that I like to wear half unbuttoned with a shiny medallion nestling in my chest hair.
