Is it just me, or is it impossible to gain any sort of experience before applying to clinical psychology. I think I have applied to every psychologist in my area, and on applying to some charities they say they have enough volunteers.
And also if there people on this who are in the clinical psychology course, how much experience did you have before you were offered a place?
It is very difficult to get work experience directly with clinical psychologists due to issues of confidentiality, plus they have a lot of graduates willing to do honorary work so usually won't offer it to younger people.
There are a lot of places you could get work experience though - although it may not be so useful for clinical psychology directly, it will help you get jobs which will be relevant.
Have a look at www.do-it.org.uk for places in your area, other options are Mind, Rethink, the Samaritans etc. Also, don't forget places for people with dementia/MND/brain injuries/learning disabilities etc - a lot of people spend time as a support worker for example.
