Re: Doctor Who - Speculation & Discussion IIAm I the only one who thinks Martha was great?(Original post by Bobifier)
Personally, I can't help but feel that none of that made up for the fact that it had Martha in.
I would go either for the specials or for series 4 because the Doctor and Donna were excellent together.
I mean, come on, she did spend a year travelling the world to save the Doctor's [by this point, wrinkly] ass! -
Re: Doctor Who - Speculation & Discussion IIBut the Doctor being saved by the power of hope was downright pathetic tbh.(Original post by Rascacielos)

Re: Doctor Who - Speculation & Discussion III heard it was because of this as well.(Original post by Gemini92)
I heard that Ecclestone chose to leave after the first series to avoid being type-cast.
Same reason really why he won't go back if they is a 50th anniversary special. -

I heard that Ecclestone chose to leave after the first series to avoid being type-cast.Supposedly that was a comment the BBC made-up and later retracted. Chris never did say that, neither did he say anything about being 'overworked'.(Original post by SirMasterKey)

Is his supposed reason."I think it's more important to be your own man than be successful, so I left. But the most important thing is that I did it, not that I left. I really feel that, because it kind of broke the mold and it helped to reinvent it." -
Re: Doctor Who - Speculation & Discussion III think that was one of the major problems with RTD. He always seemed to put 'magic' into DW rather than fantastical science. I think he got the two confused and we ended up with some sort of horrible hybrid in the finales especially.(Original post by boba)
I don't even understand how that was meant to have worked

If Amy and Rory leave this series I think Canton would have made an amazing Companion. I seriously doubt they would pick anyone but a British person as the main Companion though
I think they probably will go with a male Companion as the main Companion next though

Re: Is there anyone out there still in love with the Doctor and Rose Tyler...?That's a good point that maybe the Doctor has cottoned on to all these warnings about the Silence and maybe knows something about them that we don't. Although I still have a hard time believing that the Doctor would ask the human race to kill them like that without at least trying to talk to them first.(Original post by Pen To Paper)
My excuse in terms of the Silence is the fact that he isn't necessarily wanting them dead, but by getting humanity to kill them, he's kicking them off the planet - making it good motivation to leave rather than an attempt to destroy The Silence once and for all. And I suppose you could argue his motives might be the pretty ominous warnings he's recieved about them in Series 5. Moffat might show his move to be a rash decision anyway. Maybe the Silence, for example, chased those Vampires off their planet because the Doctor kicked them off Earth? That might be a nice twist.
I'd like to be proved wrong, it's just that I personally don't have any faith in Moffat's writing. His stories are exciting yes, but looking at it in terms of character consistency it doesn't work for me. I much preferred Russel T Davies' run as head writer. -

Re: Doctor Who - Speculation & Discussion IIIIRC (granted this is from wikipedia) but Canton is a British actor if that makes any difference(Original post by Mess.)

Re: Doctor Who - Speculation & Discussion IIso are you saying that the Doctor sent the spaceman to kill him, but current doctor doesn't know thats the plan yet?(Original post by Circadian_Rhythm)
Wow.. this may be a storyline...
Regarding the little girl.. and the Doctor thinking ahead?
or is that already obvious?
and am I just sounding like an idiot?
I can't be bothered to read all the theories. Theres too many. -
Re: Doctor Who - Speculation & Discussion IIWhat about Wilf in the End of Time episodes?(Original post by boba)
I don't think they've ever had a male companion as the main one can't see it happening ;/ -
Re: Is there anyone out there still in love with the Doctor and Rose Tyler...?I agree. There is something very fishy about the Doctor comitting genocide so mercilessly. I mean, he didn't even give them a proper chance! Just because they've taken over Earth and scared a little girl ****less, and kidnapped Amy, none of those are usually good enough motivation for the Doctor to order the death of a whole race (at least on one planet) So, what is going on?!(Original post by squareroot1764)

The Doctor needs to find himself a new name I think, he said he'd need one if he made the Star-Whale brain dead, so he definitely needs one now. The Silence aren't the Daleks, after all. But character consistency has nothing to do with it, the Doctor's character changes with each regeneration, it's one of the main parts of the show. This Doctor appears quirky and weird, but he's clearly far more willing to kill. Remember his reaction to the Daleks? And his "Nobody HUMAN has anything to say to me today!" outburst gave me chills. Very different Doctor, but not inconsistent, just new. -
Re: Doctor Who - Speculation & Discussion IIye ok your right, but I can't see them doing it for a proper series. not that I would mind especially if they were pretty(Original post by Gemini92)
What about Wilf in the End of Time episodes?

Re: Doctor Who - Speculation & Discussion III don't count him as a main Companion tbh. Since New Who came back, Rose, Martha Donna and Amy have been the only main companions. Everyone else has been a side Companion rather than the Companion.(Original post by Gemini92)

Re: Doctor Who - Speculation & Discussion III voted Series 3 as my favourite but even i admit Martha was a bit boring.(Original post by slacker07906)
I loved Martha! stop putting her down! she was the best ever companion in my opinion! How could any of you even question her ability as a great companion? -
Re: Is there anyone out there still in love with the Doctor and Rose Tyler...?
Rose and Tennant bugged me as there scenes could have been ripped straight out from eastenders and no one would be any the wiser. there stories could have had there own soap.
In my opinion Eccelston was the best. his dark side was awesome who unlike tennant just gritted his teeth and aplogised. Goodness knows how many times he said it. Smith is also great as he has his own quirks and traits that make him different from tennant and is good to see him making the charachter his own. -
Re: Is there anyone out there still in love with the Doctor and Rose Tyler...?I guess my issue is that I see that this particular aspect of the Doctor's personality as something fundamental to his character. I don't think that the Doctor should ever be that ready to commit genocide. He always tries to talk to the enemy before trying to kill it. He's merciful. His personality changes with each regeneration but he's still the Doctor, so some things are constant. Maybe Moffat is trying to change the direction of the show to something much darker where the Doctor's personality is fundamentally different, but that is something I don't like the sound of. I like it when Doctor Who is happy! (hence my love for the Doctor and Rose, going back to the thread title for a second! :P)(Original post by NaturalDisaster)

Re: Doctor Who - Speculation & Discussion IIThat's besides the point. Although, it wasn't really the power of hope - some timey wimey stuff to do with satellites. I grant you it wasn't the best move ever, but still: it's the thought that counts!(Original post by Mess.)
