Re: Any pagans/wiccans/spiritualist/new agers out there?
This might sound stupid, but what exactly are tarot cards/what do they do? I have a vague idea, but I'm not completely sure.
Sorry if I come across as nosy, but what town is this? My town doesn't have a pagan shop(Original post by Hravan)
I went into the pagan shop in town
The closest it has is a goth shop
EDIT: Oh no, we do! Never seen it before though
http://www.spookies.co.uk/
EDIT 2: Just streetviewed it, it's on a residential road. I can't even see it

Re: Any pagans/wiccans/spiritualist/new agers out there? You have a pagan shop near you?! :O I'm jealous! I have to rely on tinternet for my supplies :P which town do you go to?(Original post by Hravan)
I have a fair few tarot decks and a some oracle cards but I only really use one deck. When I was 15 or so I went into the pagan shop in town with the intent to buy a tarot deck. But I saw the Druid Animal Oracle cards and ended up buying them. I've tried to use tarot cards but I always get better results with my Druid Animal Oracle. (But only for me.. If I try to read for other people the readings aren't right so I only read for other people with tarot.)

Re: Any pagans/wiccans/spiritualist/new agers out there?
Thought i'd see if I can start some discussion up again... anyone tried any other types of divination, other than tarot and oracle cards, that is?
I started out with a pendulum, which I had great fun with... should really track it down again. Tried a ouija board a few times, but wasn't convinced at all... I did my fair share of moving the pointer! -
Re: Any pagans/wiccans/spiritualist/new agers out there?Scrying sounds really interesting, but i've never properly tried it. Think I need to get back into meditation before I try... I never seem to have the time at the moment!(Original post by Hravan)
I use a pendulum with my tarot and oracle readings. And I use pendulums by themselves as well.. (I have about 8)
I also do fire scrying, and water scrying.. -
Re: Any pagans/wiccans/spiritualist/new agers out there?
I go through the motions and share some philosophical ideas but I don't have the same beliefs as Heathens do.
I see it more as a link to the past and a way to appreciate the beauty of the natural world than a belief system. But that's just me.
Also I get pretty annoyed when I see people disrespecting ancient religious monuments like castlerigg stone circle - a few months ago I went to keswick with some friends, I went for a walk of my own while they went for a shorter walk which passed by the stone circle...I later saw some photos of them climbing on the rocks.
You wouldn't go into a church, or a mosque of a synagogue or a hindu or sikh temple and climb on the furnishings and pose for photos, so why do it for stone circles?Last edited by Manitude; 25-05-2011 at 17:32. -
Re: Any pagans/wiccans/spiritualist/new agers out there? It's not so much seeing it- we're none of us waving around wands and watching sparks fly out (or at least not that I know of!!!) People do 'see' things though... like Hravan does scrying. I tend more to hear things though.(Original post by Diety)
can someone please give me an example of when they have seen magic? I genuinely want to know -
Re: Any pagans/wiccans/spiritualist/new agers out there?Cause no one has the right to those stone circles as religious monuments anymore. Hell, we're not even sure what they were for. For all we know, heathens climbed on them and urinated on them, etc.(Original post by Manitude)

To be honest, any incident that could be given can also be argued away as coincidence.(Original post by Diety)

And with spells and things. My ones have worked. Now you could say that it's just coincidence but it still stands that every spell I've done has had the results I've wanted. Maybe things would have happened even if I hadn't done the spell but I don't believe that.
As for the other magic that I do.. Even my die-hard atheist friends have been a bit shocked when they've asked me to demonstrate... -
Re: Any pagans/wiccans/spiritualist/new agers out there?True, but some use them today in their ceremonies. Most of the time when I go to sites like that there's usually some sort of offerings left on some of the stones - I get the impression that whoever left them would want the site to be treated with respect.(Original post by Hylean)

Re: Any pagans/wiccans/spiritualist/new agers out there?Perhaps, but they are appropriating something for their religion based on an educated guess. They should be treated respect not because of their religious significance to pagans such as myself, but rather because they are a part of our heritage and the country's history. I'd never go to Newgrange and do something like that as it's part of my heritage and I respect that, but that's just me, I guess.(Original post by Manitude)

Re: Any pagans/wiccans/spiritualist/new agers out there?Even if it is little more than an educated guess, they still (presumably) believe pretty strongly in it.(Original post by Hylean)

I'd agree that they should be respected for their historical/heritage significance too.
Though really I don't know too much about the people or what they believe, truth be told.
I'm meeting with a friend sometime this week (possibly tonight) who's in the pagan society and we intend to chat about that sort of thing.
As I mentioned previously, I go through the motions and enjoy partaking in ceremonies on the rare occasions I get the opportunity to do them (solstice fires/naming ceremonies etc) but I don't know much about it really. I think we've had this conversation before... -

I think I'll do some more research into paganism (although the vastness of it seems daunting
), could you recommend an books on spells or paganism in general?

Re: Any pagans/wiccans/spiritualist/new agers out there?Wicca is the 'easiest' one to start with, since there's so much... Silver Ravenwolf is decently regarded, although I haven't yet read them- got 'To Ride a Silver Broomstick' and 'To Stir a Magic Cauldron' lined up to read though...(Original post by Diety)

To start with, try having a look at things like the Wiccan Rede and the Witches Creed, they are easy to find online. http://www.controverscial.com/ has them, along with stuff like the Charge of the Goddess.
