I don't really get the question, but this is what the question says
"To increase an amount by 26% , multiply by..."
Thanks

if you call the amount "a", and you increase it by lets say 25%,
it would be a + a * (25/100)
which is the same as a * (1+ 25/100) = a*(125/100)

hope this helps

Take a value ie: 20.
1 is 100% in decimal terms
26% = 0.26

You already have 100%(20) and you are adding 26% on, hence you have a total of 126%, so you multiply by 1.26

Simples

Or if say you had to add on 43%, then you'd multiply by 1.43

Somebody above already explained why with an example

you multiply it by 1.26 as stated above.
this 1.26 is known as a multiplier

the 1 being the 100% i.e the number such as 45

+

0.26 which is the 26 % so basically you're saing 45 + 26% of it

so you multiply the 45 * 1.26
.... if you get what i'm saying?

Ok, so think of 1 as being 100%. In that, if you times a number by 1, it is still at 100%, there's no increase or decrease.

So if you wished to increase by, say, 50%. You'd multiply by 1.5

Increase by 100%, times by 2.

Decrease to 75%, times by 0.75

Do you get the picture?
