hmm, this has nothing to do with our pre-release material?!
They would not ask anything like that but could learn the structure of the answer

Nah it doesn't. I just figured it might help in some way. ;P

Oh, my sociology teacher gave us some 'possible questions' and one of them was;

"Using the pre-release information and your wider sociological knowledge, explain and evaluate why a sociologist might use qualitative data collection methods to research how women construct their gender identity. "

This would make sense, given the pre-release is on womens gender identity, but perhaps too simple/easy? :/

Yeah possible questions driving me crazzzy!! But that questions seems pretty reasonable though, but its not easy to talk about as you have to evaluate and its to much of a broad question.. but that is a likely question along with...

Using the PRM... lalalala... the use of semi-structured interviews to research how women construct their gender identity.

or even

Using the PRM.... lalalalala... the use of sampling in Gillespie's piece of social research..

eeeeeek

I have a question. When it says using the PRM does that mean we have to go into the aims, methods, sampling blah blah of Gillespies study first, and then go onto research methods etc? Or do we go straight into research methods?

Yeaaah!! Its super longggg, but just pretty much saying her aims, methods lalaala, would get you at least the min of 15-17 marks!! and then you would lead into the used her research methods, possibly talk about operalizationing, and evaluate that.. then positives and negatives of each method.. then if you have time improvements.. always remember to link back to her work and constantly quote her social research.. make it look like you know that piece of crap inside out!! if you do all that then you should be getting a gooood gradee

hope that helpss
im so stressssed!! Goood luckk to youuu

Ann Oakley - children, socialised into gender roles
Statham(1986)- Understanding from children by age of 5, what is appropiate behaviour for that gender
"New man" theory
Metrosexual men - designer labels, intrests in how they look - david beckham as an example
Mac and Chail - crisis of masculinity
Wilkinson and Sharpe (1994) - Genderquake, profound changes between genders.
Gay subculture

This is what I've revised.

Ann Oakley - Manipulation, Canalisation, Verbal Appelations and Differentiating Activities.
Talcott Parsons - Sex Role Differentiation - Males and females are socialised, intitally by the family, into taking on different roles that reflected their characteristics. Men - intrumental roles. Female - expressive roles.
Stanley & Wise - Gender is socially constructed and our biological makeup is not what lead us to have stereotypical behaviours.
Sue Sharpe - Her study found a change in womens ambitions.
Butler - Asian womens ambitions and challenging their beliefs.
Gill & Herdieckerhoff - Chick lit & lad lit
Murphy & Elwood - Family gives children gendered interests which they have before they begin school
Connell - Hegemonic, Subordinate, Complict and Marginalised Masculinity and pressures on males.
Ferguson - Gender & the media (Studied womens magazines and their influence)
Watson - Gender identity and religion (Asian women and veils)
Mac & Ghaill - Crisis of Masculinity

I figured that if I get 7/8, then13/16, then 20/24, and then 34/52 that would marginally get me my B, obvs i would aim higher with the 52... but these seem realistic enough for mee  so yeah just so long part c doesnt go wrong, because on the examiners report, students forgot to evaluate which loses alot of markss!! :///

I was doing that aswell and i reckon 6/8, 14/16, 17/24 and 34/52 would be enough to get a B... i just checked and it is 70/100 to get a B, so if our calculations are correct, we should get the B!)

I looked at the grade boundaries for a past paper (can't remember which one) and 70/100 was an A. I think it was something like 62/100 for a B, and 54/100 for a C. Lowest mark was 39/100 for an E.

Unless you're talking UMS marks, in which case you'd be right lol. Only just realised. I prefer to deal in raw marks, easier to deal with when you're in the actual exam.

Hi there,

Many of you are saying that ethnicity may come up?

Why is this? We have been taught to look solely at gender and possibly class.

Cheers

Gillespie only interviewed white people, maybe that's why ethnicity is being brought up?

Also "ethnically-diverse area"

On my revision pack for the pre release, it asks about Gillespie's use of mixed methods. As far as I can tell she only used semi-structured interviews. How does this constitute a mix of methods?
