Well the mirror is more precise than a picture, but it is also the reverse image of how people see you, whereas a photograph or a videotape is not reversed (i.e. the same as others perceive you, think of the lens as their eyes).
I guess both have their qualities though. Its interesting that people often prefer themselves in mirrors. I think it would be a bit of shock if someone created an electronic mirror which would reflect you as others see you. -

We see ourselves differently to how other people do. Depending on what the other person is into, they might see a particular feature of yours more clearly than you perhaps do. -

I know that when I look at pictures of other people, I often think that they look better/worse (sometimes by a lot) than they do in real life, so I assume that that's the case for pictures of me too. And there's just such a difference between how I look in the mirror and how I look in pictures that one or both of them must be somewhat inaccurate.
