Re: Your favourite quote of all time?Sydney J. Harris(Original post by NaturalDisaster)
I can't choose one!! I'll add them as I think of them, but here's one.
"We call terrorism the violence of the weak, and we condemn it, but we call war the violence of the strong, and we glorify it."
Don't remember who said it though. -
Re: Your favourite quote of all time?
I love how Winston Churchill -- who proposed using mustard gas on rebelling Iraqis back in the day -- is still regarded as one of the greatest ever national leaders.

Here are mine:
"The United States maintains a triple standard. For their own human rights problems they shut their eyes. For some other countries' human rights questions they open one eye and shut the other. As for China, they open both eyes and stare."
- Chinese Finance Minister Lu Zhongli, March 20, 1994"The intellectual tradition is one of servility to power, and if I didn't betray it I'd be ashamed of myself." -Noam Chomsky
"People involved in a revolution don't become part of the system; they destroy the system... The Negro revolution is no revolution because it condemns the system and then asks the system it has condemned to accept them... " Malcolm X“One must choose between God and Man, and all radicals and progressives, from the mildest liberal to the most extreme anarchist, have in effect chosen Man.”
– George Orwell"Even after all this time, the sun never says to the earth,' you owe me.' See what happens with a love like that? It lights the whole sky ? - Hafiz
Anything by Audre Lorde, especially when she bashes white feminists. Also, nothing beats the quotes of a Bolach rebel leader, because they are so arrogant despite the fact that they perpetually have their ass handed to them.
I see that one on fb a lot, reads like a disclaimer. If a chick leads with the fact she's a raging bitch at times.... run.(Original post by lets_bring_back_the_love)
"I'm selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best."
- Marilyn Monroe -

Re: Your favourite quote of all time?Yes he was, but that iron curtain was no made official before this. I have to remind you that this was a lecture to the students, and here is the root of hatred.(Original post by domino0806)
Hypocrisy. Churchill was one of the people who created "the iron curtain". -
Re: Your favourite quote of all time?Others have seen what is and asked why. I have seen what could be and asked why not. - Picasso(Original post by mevidek)
What is your favourite historical quote of all time?
and a more modern one (i.e. it's not historical but it IS my favourite quote of all time) :
Only as high as I reach can I grow, only as far as I seek can I go, only as deep as I look can I see, only as much as I dream can I be - Karen Ravn -
Re: Your favourite quote of all time? It's pretty clear that this quotation is talking about mankind - i.e. humankind in general, not actual males.(Original post by DopedGuru)

Also it's "there". -
Re: Your favourite quote of all time?I don't doubt his wit, but if you actually have a good look online there is no proof it ever was him(Original post by mevidek)
The Churchill one is true, and very very clever. Churchill was a great master of wit, and quick answering, something I wish I could be
If you find some, please do prove me wrong!

Re: Your favourite quote of all time?It was Lady Astor who said "Were you my husband, I'd poison your drink," to which Mr. Churchill replied,(Original post by Hazular)
I think I know the bit you mean
My input:
"Mr Churchill, you're drunk."
"Bessie, you are ugly. You are very ugly. I’ll be sober in the morning."
Best thing any prime minister has ever said. EVER
"Were you my wife, I would drink it."
But my favourites are:
(Original post by Viscount Lord Nelson)
"You must hate a Frenchman like the Devil himself,"Foil: I know of a man who is so well dressed, that when he passes, people turn to look at him.
Beau Brummell : Then he, sir, is not well dressed.Last edited by Clip; 14-05-2011 at 15:21.
