Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone has gotten a place at any Central London drama schools and is currently looking for accommodation?

Thought I'd introduce myself, my name's Jordon, I'm 18, and I'm in this boat with one of my good friends, we're both heading to London Drama schools on three year courses (I'll be studying at Drama Centre London, whereas my friend will be at LAMDA), was wondering if there were any others, possibly looking for a flat share or a house share or something? I thought it would be interesting to see if there's any others out there that might consider looking for somewhere with us? (For example, looking for a house for 5 people spreads the cost a little more than if me and him were to find somewhere for the two of us as it is).

Also, if there's any people out there that have studied at Drama Centre London before, I'd love to hear what you thought of the school and any advice on student life there would be great too
Heyo - I'm on at LAMDA 3-Year next year, so it would be cool to meet you and your friend! I'm in canada atm so I really need someone to firm up on housing before I get there. I'm looking at an international student dorm but if that falls through i'd be totally down for a house share. i'm 18 year old guy. is your friend on the three year? Either way i'll probably meet you anyways if your friend is on my course.

Are there any dancers amongst you all who are aiming for a musical theatre or dance college? Because I'd appreciate some help through the application process! My school is really focussed on getting everyone through their UCAS applications, but they don't seem to know much about the route I'm going down. (I'll be auditioning for September 2013)

    Hi guys,
I'm in year 12 and applying next year for a MT course. I'm a bit confused by the interview stage, what sort of questions do they ask you?? And also, seeing as many of you seem to be applying to acting courses, I haven't really looked into acting much and I'm a bit worried about that. I've seen hundreds of musicals but I've never actually seen a play! I've recently done my advanced performance certificate which is basically a 30 minute one-woman show with several songs filled in with acting, and I was one of the only candidates to get a distinction, so I know I CAN act... hopefully! Are there certain monologues that a pannel would detest in the audition? I know there are huge no-nos in terms of songs, and I'm wondering if the same applies to acting? Where can I find monologues? Do I need to know all about the play they originate from?? I feel so clueless!
    - I've only been to two auditions where they interview you, at RADA they asked me what the most challenging role I've played was, I know they asked some who their favourite actor was and why, nothing too difficult so just be yourself and don't worry. Make sure you know a bit about each specific course though cause they asked me about that at Central!

-You've got a year, just go see as many plays as you can! Look into local amateur theatre productions as well, both to take part in and to see, you'd be
surprised how helpful and fun they can be

_ You usually get told that the most overdone monologues are the ones to avoid but from my experience this year, I don't think it matters as much as people say, just make sure the monologue you choose is close to your age, you enjoy performing it, you can relate to the character and you like and know the play!

Look on the internet for plays and check them out in the library, look through monologue books (they say you shouldn't really for some reason but as long as you've read the play, which is very important, you'll be fine) and you're bound to find something, ask your drama teacher at school to recommend some if you're stuck

Hope that helped, break a leg!

    Hello all,
I am seeking some advice on school choice.... I am having trouble deciding between Central School of Speech and Drama or Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Does anyone have any insight that might help me sway to some decision?
    Thanks!!

    Hi,

Is anybody doing an acting summer course this year? I've been saving and I'm thinking either Rose Bruford or Bristol Old Vic? I did East 15 last year and it was incredible, met some of the bestest people.

    Anyone with me?

I keep checking back to see if you have written anything or if anyone else had heard anything. The waiting game is killing me. We must find out soon because the deadline is 1st July and that is on a Sunday. So they must have to send the offer letters out and give people time to get the contract back to them by Friday 29th June!

Haha I do exactly the same thing. I think they have to send them out by 1st July and we have until 16th July to make our final decision. I am having to resist calling them up to find out.

Has anyone heard back from Bristol Old Vic theatre school yet? Am shortlisted for this year but the waiting game is killing me. I was in the same position last year and didn't hear until July!

Hi - yeah I'm on the Bristol shortlist too and haven't heard. I know that quite a few people have been offered places though, but I don't know if that was from the shortlist, or whether they gave them places straight out.

Were you on the reserve list last year? I feel like if they definitely know they don't want to take us surely they would have told us no by now!

Not always the case. Usually people who aren't successful don't get told until the 11th hour in case people who did get offered a place turn it down.
If other people have started hearing 'yes' and you're still waiting, it's usually not a great sign.
Don't mean to put a dampener on thing, but knowing that softens the blow immensely. Always prepare for the worst, because a nice surprise is much better than a nasty one. Good luck... I hope I'm wrong!!
    Xx

    Hey,
I was thinking about a Musical Theatre course at cssd. It looks highly competetive though 0_0 - and very scary.

Yeah, I was sort of assuming it's another no! I have been planning another gap year incase . I was offered a place at GSA this year, but I really don't feel like it's the right place for me. So gap year number two it is...

Hi, I've heard back from BOVTS about 3 weeks ago now, although I phoned them up a couple of times before that just to find out what was going on vis-a-vis shortlists etc. From what I've gathered the application process works like this:
    1. They interview everyone and put most people on the shortlist.
    2. Once everyone has been interviewed they select their top 24 candidates taking into account specialisms/interests, age, gender etc. This ensures they get a balanced group of students and not 24 lighting technicians or something similar! At this stage they also choose a further 6 candidates to put on the reserve list and then reject everyone else.
    3. If one of the top 24 turn down their place they then choose the person on the reserve list who would best fill that gap.

Carol Smith (Head of stage Management) explained this too me when I rang a couple of weeks before I heard and told me i was on the reserve list. 2 weeks later someone dropped out and I was in!!
However she also said that those on the reserve list could get a place as late as september as they sometimes get people dropping out after A level results or even not turning up at the beginning of term.

If you haven't heard anything yet I'd assume you're on the reserve list, but it might be worth ringing up just to double check- it also shows initiative and that you really want it.

    I hope this helps

There isn't a Drama 2013 thread, so I thought I'd use this one!

I'm going to be applying for the first time in 2013 for Unis, and I'm thinking about Brunel, Middlesex, Bristol and Birmingham (Theatre/Drama courses). Can anyone give an inside opinion on any of those?
me too!! i was thinking of mountview aswell so any advice people would be really helpful xx

I have seen a Sixth Form website boasting that one of it's students was offered a place to study Technical Theatre and Stage Management at RADA back in April/May time. I don't know where that leaves us!

I am trying not to rationalise it just yet. All I would say is that if they filled up all the spaces in April/May, they would have sent out all the rejection letters by now.
