Sociology OCR G671 (Pre-Release)

So how's everyone revising for this?

My teacher tought me what the examiners look for in a response which is ODMTAD
Try to remember it as Old Dogs May Take Ages Dawdling (don't ask, my teacher suggested it!)
O - Outline why the researcher chose this group and these aims
D - Define all relevant key terms to convey understanding
M - Methods should be clearly explained
T - Theory must be considered. It is favoured by Interpretivists or Positivists?
A - Advantages
D - Disadvantages

Then these are the key concepts...
Try to remember them as Really Vein Rugby Player Gets Fake Tan (again, please don't ask)
R - Reliability - Is the research replicable?
V - Validity - Is this a true accurate picture of what the sociologist set out to investigate?
R - Representativeness - Do the characterists of the sample accurately reflect the broader population and target population?
G - Generalisability - Can the findings be applied to the broader population (Basically, can the same results be applied in a different location)
F - Fitness For Purpose - Were these methods appropriate for the aims of research?
T - Triangulation - The use of multiple methods in order to improve the overall validity, reliability and generalisability of a piece of research (This is mixed method guys and you will not need to define it because it is irrelevant to the subject)

REMEMBER! - ALWAYS answer what the question has asked you don't just write assumed knowledge about the pre-lease, this is where I went wrong last time!

And main areas to study for Questions 1,2 and 3 are Gender Identity, Feminity/Feminism, Class, Ethnicity! Don't forget your agents of socialisation! (Family, Workplace, Education, Mass Media, Religion, Gender) - Try to have at least one study for each relating to Gender Identity!

To score marks for the first paragrah of Question 4 make sure to explain what Qualitative Data is (include Becker and expand on his concept of labelling and most importantly his concept of VERSTECHEN)

Also, what do you think qs 4 will be? I've heard its likely to be about semi-structured interviews.

btw can you talk about other sociologists in the pre-release?
