The Student Room Group

trivial c4 integration

I wanted to integrate x/x+1 and i got 1+x-ln|1+x| using substitution but the markscheme doesn't have the 1

It seems that you get a different answer if you use long division?
See this thread: http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?p=4455288&highlight=x/x%201%20integrate

the 2 responses that the guy got use 2 diff methods and get 2 diff answers..

thanks x

So note that your solution can be rewritten as xln1+x+Kx-\ln|1+x| + K where K=1+CK=1+C. Just absorbing the 1 into the arbitrary constant shows that the answers are equivalent.
