Viewable Apple Student Discount

This may have been posted before but as it's a frequently discussed subject i thought this might help.

As you know Apple offer student discounts, it's something like 10% for college and around 14% for university. You can ask in store or phone up to get prices but you can't normally access their education store unless you're on a university network, which makes pricing things up and budgeting a bit trickier.

Well I came across this while searching around..

You literally type this URL:

http://store.apple.com/uk_edu_

Then add to the end of it the code off your university of choice, from this list:

Spoiler

Big list! As far as I know the discount will be the same across all institutions but then it may vary slightly, who knows. It's worth having your Uni's code just in case.

Obviously I don't advise you to try to purchase anything (it probably wouldn't let you anyway) but at least you can get the actual prices for when the time comes.

Just checked again, and what's interesting is that the base model iMac and base model Macbook Pro are both £999 RRP, but with discount there's a £20 difference..

No worries, actually meant to post this in the general technology section :colondollar:
Just click "any other school" it takes you to http://store.apple.com/uk-edu and you'll get to see the prices. Apple's educational discount is set at 12.5% across the board.
Remember you can only use the discount once a year!
love macs! (L)

Weird, I'll speak to the guys in HE at Covent Garden and see what they say. Perhaps it does vary. I was under the impression it was fixed though.

1450 * 1.14 = 1653 ^^

Some of the macbooks seem to have an 18 % discount mind you... so it seems to vary a lot

do you think we could place an order for a macbook using these links and get the discount even if we're not at uni?

I'm not sure mate as I haven't tried.. I would've thought they'd have ways of preventing such things though..

Like for example you have to enter the code for the uni in the URL just to view the different prices, it's likely that when you attempt to check out you would do so via a unique URL.

I guess there's no harm in trying, you don't have to register to make purchases as far as I know..
You're my new favourite person!

Some of these links seem to have stopped working (such as for Bath University).

Go here instead: http://store.apple.com/uk/mac/education and you can select from a drop down list.
You need to be on a university network though. I think they must have closed this loophole to see the prices without the network.

Yes that's a shame, the problem is Uni doesn't start until October and I'll be wanting to order it before I go (and before the Back to School promotion ends). I'll probably have to phone them up.

Does anyone know if Apple products bought through this education discount means that the software on it are licensed for educational purposes only?

I am considering getting Logic Pro X on an education discount mac (since the 15% discount also applies to the software or hardware upgrades to the laptop), and I think it is the same license that you would get if you bought it through the mac app store. I don't see why it would be a different license (what would 'for educational purposes' entail?), but I do not actually know for definite.

I was wondering when you order a mac with pre-installed software on the online apple store (such as putting Logic Pro X on a MacBook), is the software tied to your apple ID? Is it the same as buying the software on the mac app store, such that you can log into the mac app store on any other of your computers and download the software again under the purchased section.

Probably best you contact customer service and ask them. Say it's for personal and work use? I can't find any separate terms and conditions for the education store so it's probably all the same.

Is anyone here ordering a Mac for University soon? What are you planning on doing:

1. Buy a Mac now with a Higher Education discount
2. Wait until results day to get a Mac with a University discount (which is a better discount)

I'm not sure yet, I also wonder whether there's a chance of the MacBook Pros getting a spec bump this month (since they weren't earlier in the year as per usual).

No point being in a hurry to buy one as they never go up in price.

There is another good reason, if you buy it through the uni network you do get 15% off and the warranty is 3 years rather than 1 year. If you buy now, you get the 4% discount and the warranty is 1 year only. This is the case for Norway, I'm guessing the terms are similar across all of EU.

I've decided to buy mine in Luxembourg instead where it is 23% cheaper.
