Re: EvE Online - Official Society
Yep! Eve is still going very strong and now is just as good a time to start as any! On Tuesday they release the next big patch, Incarna. This is supposed to help the new player experience so maybe after next week (they do need to iron out the inevitable patch-day glitches) would be a brilliant time to start.
I tend to play EVE at silly hours of the day due to my shift work, and it never really drops below 20-30k players online, with peaks about 50-60k. -
Re: EvE Online - Official Society
Just made a trial account and I can't get over how much the game has changed since I last played it in terms of character creation and stuff, it's actually one of the most impressive I've seen!
Absolutely without certainty going to be playing over the summer, I'm just worried because it seems rather complicated, is it a bit disadvantageous as a 'once again newcomer' do you think? -
Re: EvE Online - Official SocietyReally? I thought it was a massive disappointment. Went as far as turning off CQ in the options. I'll give it another try when they introduce the multiplayer aspect of it.(Original post by Mad Vlad)
Oooh... I was expecting Incarna to be a little underwhelming, but it's actually pretty nifty

Re: EvE Online - Official Society
People have to also remember that CCP are now going with the rolling release of expansions. This is the first release of Incarna and as such, is nowhere near the vision CCP have for the finished product.
You only have to look at Incursion for an example of this. Incursion 1.0 came out in November, and we didn't see incursions til March (Christ, my memory is awful, and that's probably wrong ¬¬ but you get my point!)
I'd say CCP will use til October/November to implement the majority of Incarna's features.
Also, new turret system is win. New ship models are win. CQ can be turned off for those that whinge. Overall a fairly impressive first edition patch
I can't wait to see more!

Re: EvE Online - Official SocietyIt's a fairly notorious difficult game for beginners. But a lot of that changed recently and they've put a whole new tutorial system in which apparently makes it more noob-friendly. I've yet to go through them though, so I'll have to reserve my judgement.(Original post by H.JJJ)
Planning on playing this. How easy is it to get into for a newbie? -
Re: EvE Online - Official SocietyI played a few hours yesterday, its ****ing difficult(Original post by Robbolo)

Let me get this straight, if you're in space, can't you fly around randomly? I thought you could but it seems you always have to right click and "go to"
also, fights. Is it just a little text box that appears saying you did 20 dmg? I had to blow up a station which I did, and I was expecting some gunfire and ****! -
Re: EvE Online - Official SocietyIf you double click on an object, or just any direction in space your ship will approach where you double clicked.(Original post by H.JJJ)

Re: EvE Online - Official SocietyAs for game mechanics of fighting, there are a ****tonne. Projectile weapons take into account radial velocity to work against your turret tracking, missile lauchers will use opponents speed to outrun your missiles explosion velocities. All systems of combat have animations; you will see gunfire, lasers, missiles flying through space. Make sure you're not zoomed out though :/(Original post by H.JJJ)

Seems like I didn't have the effects enabled in options. Turned it on, it looks great now!
So much easier when you've learnt waypointing and warping (gates and stargates). I just have to figure out that bloody map. Lines everywhere... Looks pretty though
Either way, I 'think' I've gotten used to it all now. I already made 1.9 million ISK (I think its called that, refering to in game money) and skilling to class 3 frigate for a Tristan ship I got from a mission. Don't know if thats good or not but it seems to be going ok. Best idea is to increase skill set early on right?
What is there to do outside of missions? I take it that it is nothing like WoW where you can instance or something? Want to do something other than missions. Don't say mining please! Looking for something combative, but not PvPing (yet...)
Also, how much is this per month? Looking to get into it and balancing it around work / time at dojo. good thing skills update off line tbh.
All-in-all, once you get past the learning curve of the basics, its pretty neat. Can't wait for all the advance weapon mechanics jazz =
EDIT: damnit lost my first ship on a mission. 75mm gattling cannon vs missle launchers.. hmphLast edited by H.JJJ; 03-07-2011 at 21:35.
