Re: EvE Online - Official SocietyWhat's your character's name? Have you joined a corp yet?(Original post by H.JJJ)
Seems like I didn't have the effects enabled in options. Turned it on, it looks great now!
So much easier when you've learnt waypointing and warping (gates and stargates). I just have to figure out that bloody map. Lines everywhere... Looks pretty though
Either way, I 'think' I've gotten used to it all now. I already made 1.9 million ISK (I think its called that, refering to in game money) and skilling to class 3 frigate for a Tristan ship I got from a mission. Don't know if thats good or not but it seems to be going ok. Best idea is to increase skill set early on right?
What is there to do outside of missions? I take it that it is nothing like WoW where you can instance or something? Want to do something other than missions. Don't say mining please! Looking for something combative, but not PvPing (yet...)
Also, how much is this per month? Looking to get into it and balancing it around work / time at dojo. good thing skills update off line tbh.
All-in-all, once you get past the learning curve of the basics, its pretty neat. Can't wait for all the advance weapon mechanics jazz =
EDIT: damnit lost my first ship on a mission. 75mm gattling cannon vs missle launchers.. hmph -
Re: EvE Online - Official SocietyHA! Glad you got that resolved mate. At the minute, you're probably going to be sticking with frigates, but I cannot recommend more highly how awesome cruisers are. As soon as you get the chance, train this up, and get into them.(Original post by H.JJJ)

Do they still have the Sisters of Eve epic arc mission? if so, do that, the course of that serious of missions will give you millions of ISK, skills and ships.
As for missioning, I tend to do my PVE in wormholes and pull around 130m ISK/hour. And with that, you can buy plex in-game in run your account. So if you make enough money, EVE is free to play
If you don't it's 8.99 a month I think?
I also cannot recommend highly enough how awesome PVP is. Get into it! -
Re: EvE Online - Official SocietyMy biggest recommendation would be to try it and keep an open mind. It's unlike pretty much all MMOs and the learning curve is pretty steep. Follow the tutorial and get in with a friendly corp as quickly as you can - they'll really help you out. H.JJJ joined the corp I'm part of and (I hope) it's helped him.(Original post by micky022)
I'm thinking of picking this game up (I have a lot of free time now). Can anyone give me any advice/a noob guide to EVE?
Any help at all would be much appreciated.

Re: EvE Online - Official SocietyI fly an Aeon (and training for a revenant).(Original post by Robbolo)
Anyone in here got any experience flying carriers? Or have experience (/or even just decent knowledge) of FC'ing small carrier fleets?
FCing carrier fleets is fairly easy tbh.
Set up Spider tank, get trimarks going, primary from 60 km out and pew pew.
You will need something other than carriers though if you're going up against dreads in siege mode.

Re: EvE Online - Official Society
I used to have fun instant popping inties in my Moros.... until CCP ran along and nerfed it.. Grrr
You could always nano-tank a carrier, I'm not joking I actually saw that once in Stain, killed it ofcourse silly Russians. xD

Re: EvE Online - Official Society
I love my alliance. We're based in Syndicate. We have a POS on a rubbish moon. There is no reason people would want the moon. So whenever our POS gets attacked, it's always personal because we've been ripping too many faces off the same alliance.
A couple days ago, for the second time since our deployment in Syndicate, someone dropped a capital fleet on our POS. For the second time since our deployment in Syndicate, our killboard is full of capitals.
Reikoku felt the need to drop caps on a POS sitting on a useless moon in NPC 0.0? They deserve to lose assets like those for making that kind of stupid decision.
Fingers crossed they stay mad and bring supercaps next time!
Bring it. -

Is EVE in browser or do you have to download a client?

Re: EvE Online - Official SocietyDude! What kind of ops are you missing out on?(Original post by Mad Vlad)
Argh... I hate skill training
I want to join in with my alliance's ops, but I'm not quite good enough yet.
We are a very noob friendly PVP alliance, and we get players flying with us that are merely days old, before crafting them into the PVP gods of the future.
If you're being told you're not good enough to shoot people in the face, your FC is awful, and you should come join us!
If it's PVE you're after though, it can get pretty skill intensive
-
Re: EvE Online - Official SocietyIt's my own pride that's stopping me from going on these ops. The alliance has no problem with my current skills - there's roles I can easily perform with my current SP, but I choose not to on the basis that I don't want to let anyone down.(Original post by Robbolo)

Re: EvE Online - Official Society
Tried 14 days trial of EvE a year ago
In the start I was overwhelmed by the crazy UI and rigid learning curve, stopped playing,
Came back later, 5 mins after logging, quit the game and uninstall.
Not saying the game is bad, but it seems that it needs patient to learn and it looks slow to me, the gameplay. -
Re: EvE Online - Official Societysee i was like that at first, I was about to hit the uninstall button, but i found a corp (clan) that helped out loads, explaining everything to me.(Original post by Pochi_X)

Needless to say, signed up and still with the same corp. Its really fun when you get the basics covered!!
Re-consider dude, it's a neat game -
Re: EvE Online - Official SocietyEven if I play now, in 2 months from now I'll start studying in New Zealand, won't be able to play PC games anymore.(Original post by H.JJJ)

Re: EvE Online - Official SocietyI used to be like that! I waited nearly two months before migrating to 0.0 because I feared that I just wouldn't be good enough to play alongside the more veteran players.(Original post by Mad Vlad)

Now I've been here for months, and realise that SP has little to do with it. I've seen noobs come to us after a week ingame, and work better in a fleets, follow simple commands, and show an ability and desire to learn that a lot of older players lack.
Do you mind if I enquire into the whereabouts of your corp and the activities to which you aspire? Oh, and how many SP are you?
EDIT: Put my ridiculously highly skilled alt into a falcon! Good lord, what a wonderful ship! I feel buying an alt with faaaar more SP than my main might have been a bad idea. I'm going to be in a carrier with her before my main can even use T2 guns on his BS :/Last edited by Robbolo; 13-08-2011 at 03:45. -
Re: EvE Online - Official SocietyWe've just moved to Molden Heath from Everyshore after the Alliance leader's old alliance hunted him down and tore down the POS's we had. I'm going to be starting doing Incursions this weekend to farm some quick ISK with my Alliance, but I aspire to move away from PvE and start getting involved in Low/Null sec operations. I'd also like to do more with Wormholes, too.(Original post by Robbolo)

I'll be topping 10m SP within 24 hours.
