Re: AQA Economics Revision ThreadExactly and it can't hurt to have a bit more knowledge if you have the time.(Original post by abisolaay)
Yeah, that is very true.
I do AQA and that syllabus. The topics very much overlap for unit 2 and unit 4 though except for maybe the international economy bit.
Do you use msn or something? Exam's on friday, might as well send what I have so far so you can look into it. -

Haha, guess so!
I will pm you my email, then you can send it, if thats alright. I can also send my unit 2? Hope it somewhat helps for friday! good luck. -
Re: AQA Economics Revision Threadsweet thanks(Original post by alexs2602)
Choose the most significant point you made, compare it to an insignificant point. Add a bit of evaluation and end on a clear point.
i.e.: So and so would effect blah, blah, blah most because ..., though this and that would have very little impact on blah therefore so and so would be most likely to remedy blah.
Or something like that
It's just evaluating the rest of your essay. Make sure you come back to the question.

Re: AQA Economics Revision Thread
Has anyone got a decent set of Unit 2 revision notes?
I've bought a revision guide which is fairly decent, but it doesn't have the discussion of the conflicting schools of economics, as well as political incentives etc... it's just quick notes on each topic.
A glossary of definitions for AQA would be awesome too, although I guess I will have to make one >.<
Quote/Pm me... I am going to produce a few resources hopefully so maybe we can help eachother out

Re: AQA Economics Revision ThreadNo, I found them online. I think you have to pay for them normally, that's why it's a little old. I have unit 3 and 4 though.(Original post by Jorgeyy)
Sweet that's awesome!
Was that free from tutor2u?
I'll have to get the Unit 3 and 4 ones when I do them next year ! -
Re: AQA Economics Revision ThreadIf you write up definitions can you send them to me please?(Original post by Jorgeyy)

Re: AQA Economics Revision Thread
I am currently using the AQA A2 Economics text book by Ray Powell to revise for Unit 3 and 4. Is it necessary to have a very good understanding of every chapter to get an A as there are lots of choices in the exam and some question are very likely to appear(such as market structures and distribution of income for Unit 3). Would it be a good idea to have a very good understanding on the important chapters and only a brief understanding on other less relevant chapters such as cost benefit analysis as I don't think I have enought time to fully understand the whole book.
-
Re: AQA Economics Revision Thread
I use the ray powell book too. Don't worry, you do have to have a good understanding but have a small understanding can still get you an A. I have seen a 25 marker on cost benefit analysis but to be fair you could just pick a different question if it is really that much of a problem. I think cost benefit analysis is one of the most useful topics and can be linked into many topics to do with making entrepreneurial decisions which free market economists create incentives for. This can be handy when evaluating if the government should intervene or not.
I have read the book once, wrote all the notes out once and made cards containing keywords for each chapter. I still don't know everything but I think I may know enough to get a B if im lucky. I've never revised this much before and I usually get C's so fingers crossed. How have you revised? -
Re: AQA Economics Revision ThreadIntro - 2 definitions(Original post by ankthebank)
How would people structure a 25 marker question? I'm stuck... really stuck!
3 Main paragraphs - Explain, Diagram, Analysis, Evaluation. Maybe kick in a definition.
Conclusion. Evaluate the 3 main paragraphs and return to original question to answer it. Pick the most significant point and explain why it's the most significant and least significant and explain why.
Something like that -

Alright cool, that's very helpful! Do you think I could get away with 2 main (padded out) points, with the entire essay being around 2.5/3 pages long? -
Re: AQA Economics Revision ThreadI've pretty much memorized or the chapters in the the book which is very unnecessary since Economics is a subject that gives you the chance to avoid questions that you really hate. Questions like oligopoly or perfect competition is very likely to come up so having a good knowledge on these areas is probably enough. I haven't been revising for Economics for like a week now since I had to prepare for Maths yesterday and Chemistry for tommorow.(Original post by gemmurdoch)

Re: AQA Economics Revision ThreadYou might be able to but that really depends what mark you want to get for it(It seems unlikely that you'd get much more than 20 marks unless you were really good) and what your definition of padded out is. I'd personally go for 3 points and that'd be the same length for me(2.5/3 pages). You don't need to do much for each point.(Original post by ankthebank)

I usually structure each paragraph (part c of Section A) like this...
- State Point
- Reference to Extract
- Consequences (exports, imports, unemployment, output, etc.)
- Diagram to support these
- Evaluative comments
Each one is usually about a page long, and would take me about 15 minutes to get through. I include counter arguments if necessary. Perhaps I am going into too much detail?
This is where I'm confused, because past exam papers have said 'a minimum of two issues outlined to achieve level 4', and then 'in addition to this, blah blah to achieve level 5'.
The January 2011 paper doesn't say how many points would be needed. I have been practising with two, and I usually run out of time if I try to include more. -
Re: AQA Economics Revision ThreadCounter arguments and all that **** is always nice but you have one minute per mark so spending 15 mins on one paragraph is too much time because to start with you can't get 15 marks for one paragraph. Ideally you want to cut that down to 10 mins(for your method, more like 8 or so for mine). Not to knock your method but I'd go for mine if I were you.(Original post by ankthebank)

It's just evaluating the rest of your essay. Make sure you come back to the question.
