The most powerful jedi/sith ever
Whether you think cinema died with Hitchcock or only got good once Michael Bay started blowing up helicopters, this is the place where moving pictures are discussed.

The most powerful jedi/sith ever
Okay a slightly "geeky" thread, but there has been alot of debate on this, and I want to know what people think.
My guess would be mace windu for the following reasons:
1) Takes on sideous and wins (without anakins intervention)
2) Only jedi that uses vaapad and doesnt turn to the darkside
3) Unique lightsaber and fighting abilities
4) Ability to see "shatterpoints"
5) Can attack while freefalling (I doubt even sideous can claim to that)
6) Able to refect force lightning, the only other that can do this is Yoda, and he can only do it with great efford (or with dookus weaker lightning)
7) Even as far back as Ep1, windu feels somewhat of sideous distrubances "Which was destroyed the master or the aprentice", "I feel much confusion in you skywalker"
8) Also the bottom line is, simply by being sith you are more powerful, sith> jedi yet even despite this windu rivalls sideous.
9) His relative youth, yoda had been knocking around for 100s of years, whereas windu got powerful in less than 30. -
Re: The most powerful jedi/sith everNah the way I see it Luke was never stronger than Anakin as he originally was (who was 'The one' in the prophecies and all that), he was just way weakened cos like half his body got burnt up and he had to wear the Vader suit - if he was just normally able bodied I think he'd still have been 'the strongest' Jedi(Original post by Ape Gone Insane)
Not Luke? -
Re: The most powerful jedi/sith everStill think its mace windu :P, (see my OP)(Original post by lukejoshjedi)

Re: The most powerful jedi/sith everSo how do you class wins and draws?(Original post by Clip)
He killed Darth Maul, spanked Anakin, killed General Grievous, had what I would term to be a draw with Darth Vader in Episode IV.
Didn't he also draw with Darth Maul and General Grievous? -
Re: The most powerful jedi/sith everNever mind that list did you see Mace Windu in Pulp Fiction and Snakes on a Plane, he was badass in those(Original post by QuantumOverlord)

Re: The most powerful jedi/sith ever
I would imagine Bane and Anakin up there. Obi-Wan would definitely be in the running too.
I'm not being objective about this but I think Windu was incredible. His death was criminal IMO, and would have only grown in strength. Ah well...
Maybe he who is the most powerful is the one who is able to refrain from wielding it. Maybe our definition of 'powerful' should be examined a little. -

Re: The most powerful jedi/sith everThis is all perfectly true, but all you have really demonstrated is that Windu is excellent at awesome Jedi battles. It also is arguably the case that Sideous allowed himself to lose to Windu in order to complete Anakin's conversion.(Original post by QuantumOverlord)

That said, I do think Windu has something on the rest of the Jedi. He seems to be at least more open to the ideas of the dark side, and I personally find some Jedi philosophy so ridiculous that to follow it completely would half cripple a Jedi no matter how powerful he was. In the extended universe Yoda himself acknowledges that he was unable to defeat Sideous in the third film because the Jedi order had stagnated under its own rules.
In terms of raw power, I would say that Yoda is the obvious choice in terms of what he has demonstrated, but they always made a big thing of Anakin being the best thing ever, despite us never actually seeing it on screen. I actually think that, while Sideous was obviously very skillful and powerful, his real edge lay in his ability to manipulate those around him rather than just his Jedi powers. By the (in universe) end of the series it is possibly Luke since he has probably inherited a lot of Anakin's powers whilst also not having most his body burned off.
And that is absolutely the nerdiest post I have ever made. -
Re: The most powerful jedi/sith ever
There is a Star Wars wiki floating around the internet somewhere, and it is amusing because it says of just about every Jedi who played a significant role in any of the films either "***** was among the most powerful Jedi of all time" or "***** was among the greatest lightsaber duellists of all time". It's as if all the great Jedi in history were born simultaneously :P

Against Darth Vader, they were fighting, and then he gave up for some reason which I've never been quite clear about.
