I think I'm addicted to sleeping tablets.
For about two years now I've been on a range of sleeping meds - Zopiclone, Zolpidem and Nitrazepam.

I literally cannot sleep without them. I'm getting about 4 hours sleep a night when I take them, but when I don't I get no sleep at all.

Has anybody got any experience of coming off sleeping meds? Or any advice on how I can come off them?

    I just feel rubbish

I think your best bet will be to speak to your GP about it. They will be able to recommend a proper cause of action

I can't speak to my GP. I'm currently in hospital, and the doctors have tried to take me off them gradually but every time I try I just can't sleep so always end up going back onto them.

Zopiclone is a nasty thing to be addicted to. I had to wean myself off it (started with one every 2 days) and got a bit of withdrawal. I would also speak to your GP too, cos you shouldn't have been prescribed the pills for that long.

Sorry to be quoting you a year later but what are your thoughts on Zopiclone in general? How much does it work?!

No worries I found it worked quite well considering that I basically have to be knocked out if I've got a serious bout if insomnia going on.

I take 7.5mg Zopiclone PRN and I'd say it gives me a very good night sleep and pretty much just knocks me out until the morning.

Also tried valium but really don't like the hangover effect that it gives me, just feel like I'm drunk the day after. Zopiclone is considered to be a 'clean' drug and has very few side effects and shouldn't affect you much at all the day after.

Hope it helps, any questions just quote me!

Zopiclone never really worked for me (my insomnia is normally caused by other medications), but as you've seen it does for a lot of people.

It's a pretty good drug from the point of not getting any hangover or anything from it. Although it can leave a nasty taste in your mouth for a long time the next day
