Out of interest, what are you both doing for your FMP? Like, theme-wise?

tbh mine isnt so clear what my theme is, which apparently isnt great as according to the support woman the most successful fmps are those that have clear actions etc
My title's 'May at first appear jumbled' lol... says it all really
I just want the freedom to carry on experimenting and i have a good feeling about this

Are you doing it atm too?

Yeah, I'm doing mine too. My tutor suggested we write ourselves "vague but specific" briefs, which isn't very clear. I submitted mine yesterday so I hope it was okay, but still. I don't like that we have to say what we're going to do before we even start doing it, because my ideas usually change as I go along. Your title sounds quite good though, like it's vague enough that you can go in different directions but it sounds like a pretty clear idea...Which sounds good for what you want to do with the experimenting and stuff

I didn't know what to call mine because my ideas are still a bit muddled, but I went with "You can live more than once" because I'm thinking about/starting with multiple personalities and dissociative identity disorder. It's sort of looking at the opposite of what people mean when they say "You only live once", but in the sense that you can have more than one personality or viewpoint rather than reincarnation or something...If you've read/seen Fight Club, I'm sort of basing it around that at the moment, but who knows where it'll end up...

have you seen the kiefer show at white cube? Wimbledon got me into him

God, the KIEFER SHOW. Best exhibition ever! I was so impressed; always liked Anselm Kiefer but this most recent series of works is seriously impressive. Also White Cube = one of my favourite galleries.

Me too, that twist is amazing. I haven't seen the film yet, but I bought it on Amazon the other day, so I hope it's as good. Have you read it or watched it? I feel a bit bad talking about my FMP ideas though, 'cause if I go into too much detail I'd ruin the story for people :frown:

Hi, I'm new to this thread.. I've got an interview for Kingston on Monday and was wondering if you've got any suggestions for what I should include or how many pieces I should take? Also, should I mount everything?

Just got an offer from Reading for Art and History of Art!
So happy! They took ages, I'm so relieved!
Only waiting on Edinburgh now.

Good luck to all of you who have interviews or are waiting on invitations or offers!

Mine's on Wednesday! Good luck. You should take approx 18-25 A1 sheets of paper. If your piece of work is 2D and A1 already, there's no point in mounting it (also, just mount on plain white cartridge paper. Don't use board or black paper). Don't put tons of small images on one A1 sheet either. Two-three images of your work (painting, sculpture, installation, film) is enough (unless you're trying to take film screenshots and the many images show your concept better).

So have that many neatly presented A1 sheets. My tutor recommends it to be mostly pasted in the same direction (or as much as possible, don't put it haphazardly in every single direction so they have to keep turning it 360 degrees) and the images should be pasted closer to the top, leaving a bigger gap at the bottom.

The order should be newest/best work in the front, and also something exciting at the end. And then have a few sketchbooks put in as well!

I'm on the Kingston foundation course and I pretty much live right next to campus, so if you'd like me to show you around (if you haven't been to an open day already) the fine art foundation/first year studio and stuff on Monday, I could do that.

Also, congratulations, S'mores!

Am i the only one who doesn't like that exhibition much at the White Cube? I must admit it may have something to do with walking around for miles at first before I found it at Bermondsey. Then all parrot gallery people walking around repeating the word 'space'!
Might have been the building i didn't like. Didn't really spend a lot of time understanding the work due to my bad mood.... i did like the reel of photographs sculpture? is there a good starting point to understanding his work that doesn't involve going there...?

It was great wasn't it??? I particularly loved seeing the Hammer of Thor, the rabbi golem from prague, and the bicycle, just seeing supposed mythological artefacts felt incredible to me.

I kindof felt like it had a story of the philosophers endless lost journey for this magnum opus? lol I don't think I should really try to conclude anything about the show actually... I love how large everything was while I think visually its managed to stay minimal? Kiefer and Beuys have actually inspired me loadsssss the past 6 months

Lol was actually my first visit to white cube to be honest lololol, but looking at the website i feel like I've missed out on A LOT

Wikipedia! taught under joseph beuys, historical subject matter usually revolving around a historical past, especially Germany's and the socialist regime. Uses materials which relate to the meaning behind the work.

So, after lurking like the creep I am, I've finally joined...

But yeah, anyone applied to Environmental Art & Scultpure at GSA?
I'm totally stressing myself out having not heard from them yet, seeing as it's rejections-a-go-go from 2 other choices so far. Alas...

Had my interview for Kingston on tuesday and got the offer today - they're nice and speedy with getting back to you, which is a plus  They spend no more than 5 minutes on each person, so don't over-fill it. I had 17 pages (inc. 5 life drawings) to mine and didn't talk much about at lead 5 of them. I think if you have your underlying themes/ideas sorted out then you can talk about that to them while they are going through the work.

If you're not sure on the process - about 10 applicants, all lay out work on a table each, then you go around each person's work for 5 minutes each (some had much less, so make sure you use your time wisely, and don't have too little to say) and one tutor looks through the portfolio while the other through the sketchbooks, and then they swap a few times, asking you different questions.

LIE - and say you went to one of the open days even if you didn't - a lot of the people there said they hadn't and he got a bit annoyed.

hope it goes well!
