Hey, I'm changing my degree from straight Chinese to Chinese with Japanese so I need to teach myself the first year of Non-Specialist Japanese. Is there anyone who has done this who can tell me what you studied and what books you used?

I have the Minna No Nihongo book 1 (the one written purely in Japanese), and the same one with the translations, but I don't know which Kanji book is used on the course and how far through the book you get during the first year. Do I also need to get the book with the exercises in it?
