Re: i want a phone with buttons!Well then for the love of god get it replaced or swapped. If it's actually so bad as to cause physical damage the network has no choice but to sort the situation out. And if it is that common wouldn't reading a few reviews beforehand have stopped you buying it?(Original post by Aemiliana)
Oh it's common all right. I have yet to speak to someone with this crap phone who hasn't had these issues. It's supposed to be a cheaper version of the E72. The cheaper part they achieved well. Technically there's nothing to repair - the only way to do that is to bin it and get a different phone. -
Re: i want a phone with buttons! They'd have to sort it out if I weren't PAYG. As for reading reviews, it was too late by the time I got home/to uni.(Original post by richwhite)

Re: i want a phone with buttons! If it's under warranty then send it to Nokia for repair or replace.(Original post by Aemiliana)

Re: i want a phone with buttons!I doubt it's still under warranty. It doesn't matter now, I'm going to buy a new phone and throw this under a bus multiple times. This time, I've read loads of reviews and will be going for a contract to cover my arse(Original post by richwhite)

Back on track for the OP: fewer and fewer good phones seem to have buttons but you can always go on online stores and filter by having a qwerty keyboard? The Samsung Galaxy Pro looks good for you:

Re: i want a phone with buttons!Same as mine, but the network isn't the problem. Read the thread(Original post by Aemiliana)

Re: i want a phone with buttons!Oh get over yourself! Nobody said it was being dropped immediately. No one commented that nokia were going to burn all their symbian handsets over night and completely discontinue it with no cross over period. You're just so high up on your soap box rammed up Nokia's arse that you're struggling to accurate comprehend other people's posts.(Original post by richwhite)
well go you, no one is telling you to buy Symbian. I'm just pointing out the fact that Symbian will continue to be supported, to clear up this prevalent misconception that it's being dropped immediately. -
Re: i want a phone with buttons! No i can comprehend them, they're just wrong. You said the apps won't improve because Symbian is being dropped in favour of WP7. I just corrected you by telling you Nokia will be supporting it for at least another five years. Nothing to do with a soapbox or lack of comprehension, it's just the difference between paying attention to official news and just assuming stuff.(Original post by The_Goose)

Re: i want a phone with buttons! You seem to think that support is equal to development. Microsoft support old operating Systems, they don't improve. I've paid attention to the news thank you. I still don't believe that any amount of assurance from whatever bigwig up in Nokia that they will be 'supporting' symbian is evidence that the apps on ovi will actually improve.(Original post by richwhite)

1) Symbian will continue getting support in terms of software updates, app updates, ovi suite updates, and customer support. This is called "development". In other words, little will change for the end-user.
2) Nokia Beta Labs is still developing stuff, and there is no plan for that to change - Bubbles, sleeping screen, Big Screen, Ovi Maps continued updates and so on.
3) Symbian phones will continue to be made and released
4) There are two software updates scheduled for release this year.
5) Qt and QML are what are now used to develop apps for Symbian, and this platform has a lot of users and it is growing rapidly. This platform allows for cross platform development with MeeGo too, which people are already developing for (if you had any knowledge of QML and its rapid creation of apps you'd realise how what is coming up is very different to the past. One person alone has written a twitter, facebook, GReader and 4Square app in just a couple of months. The best youtube client on any platform is CuteTube, written in QML in a few days and is currently being ported to Symbian^3, as is a clone of the iPhone Facebook app, and a bunch of other things. These apps alone are proof enough of continued support from developers, for apps people really want.)
That is not the same as 'yeah sure we'll help out existing users if they have issues' like MS do with old systems. Nokia will continue Symbian in the same way they currently do until such a time comes that they can phase it out, but with less financial support going into R&D. Windows Phone 7 will be the new primary OS, not the only OS.
You can interpret that to mean Symbian will be dropped real quick and there's no point buying one because of that, but you'd be wrong, quite simply. -
Re: i want a phone with buttons! We're just going to go round in circles, and frankly that bores me. You still seem to think that I think Nokia are going to click their fingers and symbian is going to disappear. I didn't say this, I didn't even imply that I thought this. But there's a reason Nokia are moving away from Symbian. I know what you've said in your responses to me, contrary to your mistaken belief, I actually can read. You have failed to provide sources for your information and more importantly evidence that things are actually improving.(Original post by richwhite)

Re: i want a phone with buttons!Your assertion was that Nokia will stop developing for Symbian, as you said in your last post. You also asserted that app development will stop, as you said to me and the first user you replied to. Here's a source http://mynokiablog.com/2011/05/26/el...at-least-2016/(Original post by The_Goose)

Yes, Nokia are moving away from Symbian. But until such a time as they have moved away completely they will continue to develop for it. This is really very simple, i don't know why you're so gung-ho convinced that Symbian devices will only receive 'support' for users but not the platform, when Nokia has said otherwise. You can think they won't make good on that, that's up to you, but right now as we speak an ovi store update is being pushed out, Symbian 2.0 is on the verge of release with 3.0 scheduled for late this year, and nokia beta labs is developing apps. So all the evidence is disagreeing with you. -
