    Re: Languages are for Girls?
I've heard that normally (not always!!) boys prefer maths type subjects and girls prefer more englishy type subjects. Apparently you're meant to be generally better at French, Spanish, Italian etc. if you're good at English, and better at German if you're good at maths. Although obviously this is not always the case, it's a bit of generalisation, but it could explain why often more girls than boys take languages, often, more boys take maths/sciences.
Also, I went on a languages work experience course, there were 25 of us, and out of that there were 20 girls and 5 boys (this was for French).

They're disappointingly rude and bitchy, poorly dressed and average, if you ask me. There's obviously the stunner every now and then, but I go through half of St Petersburg every day, and I can't help thinking that it's a massive myth. One could say that's because I'm a girl, but my male friends all think the same. :holmes:
Agreed. My home town looks like it was invaded by the USSR and Russian/Polish women are 'meh' on average.

Hmm I don't know, I've been in Russia for a year now and found the women to be quite attractive on average (although agreed, the six-inch heels, tiny dress and inch of makeup just to go to university isn't a good look!)
    Russian men though? Blegh. :puke:

Not related to the topic, but you weren't at Benedict, were you?
I've tried with a friend to come up with an explanation for Russian men. Even more interesting is that women find them more attractive than European men. I guess there's a bit of logic in nature…

I saw a side mullet the other day. A side mullet?! I've also learnt that it's illegal in Iran to have a mullet, what a sound advice it was! And yes, I was in class with all of them, haha (those who went to Benedict, at least), two of them are gone, though. :holmes:

There's more girls doing languages than boys in general on my course but there's no shortage of boys to say the least, in a lecture of maybe 70 theres probs 30 guys and 40 girls. Though that's a linguistics lecture...the literature lectures are different I gather, vast majority girls.

In my German class there were 2 boys out of the 10 of us. One was doing French and German though. And I know there was at least 2 guys doing French, not sure if there was more.

My French A Level class consists of 9 girls.

German had one student - a girl.

Last year though, the German class was about 50/50 for guys and girls. There was about 16 of us.
2 guys took French last year.

I can see why you're not doing maths at least...

But in serious yeah a lot of language students at RHUL are girls - maybe 70%?
