Anyone see the game? Heard good stuff about El Ahmadi...
Yeh, I went. He was very composed on the ball, used it well, and linked up the midfield and the forwards/wingers nicely. Unfortunately Villa started very very slugglishly and he stood out like a sore thumb. In a good way. Thats only to be expected really though, first game back and all. Given those cirumstances, it was hard to say if Bent and Weimann up top together could work, as they were rusty.

Second half was a different story though. Burton barely had a touch of the ball for the entire 45 minutes. The defence sweeped up the few attacks with very few issues, Warnock in particular got forward well, and both Gabby and particularly Fonzy really pressed the defenders well to good effect.

For all that though they didnt test the goalkeeper very much.

If we saw no more transfers, what do you think our starting XI would be against West Ham?

@SkySports: Reports from Holland say Feyenoord captain Ron Vlaar was at Aston Villa today with his agent to meet Paul Lambert. http://t.co/Tt1yAJFR

Thoughts? Would be a decent signing for you guys imo

    My prefered would be...

    Given

Lichaj - Dunne - Clark - Lowton (Both full backs can play either side)

    N'Zog - El Ahmadi (sp) - Makoun - Holmann

    Gardner or Ireland

    Bent

**** knows who he will pick though. I'm hoping he buys a LB or Warnock pulls his finger out for the season until Dame Enda comes good.

I don't care what people say either - Clark for captain for me. He did it at the lower levels for Villa and personally, I think he's the business.

Looking forward to seeing him then Shame we're still sluggish at putting it in...

I just looked and he wasn't added in. Although it does say that Feyenoord confirmed that we held talks with him.
My friends over in Holland say the rumour is true and that the fee may be as high as £8million. But we won't be paying that high surely (even if it does represent the respective ability of such a fantastic player) and it is most likely over £4million.
I can't believe he'd want to leave at such an exciting time for the club, as they could reach the Champions League group stage! Same as El Ahmadi, I'm very surprised...
I would dance if this transfer happened though... :woo::woohoo:

Hutton hasn't been named to go on the pre-season tour to America! :yay:
He's not just injured either apparently, because Delph and Ireland are also currently injured and are still going on the trip.

Guzan has resigned with the club too.

That may what people believe him to be worth, but it is not what he will be signed for. It'll be €4m, thanks to a release clause in his contract :h:

Just done a tiny article on Villa (for fantasy football purposes):

If you can spot any glaring errors, let me know. Done very quickly and I'm a terrible writer tbh.

    Just saw this on Twitter...

Vlaar, Vlaar, wherever you may be. You wear clogs in your country. It could be worse, you could be blue, like the **** on the bottom of my shoe

Good article. I'm really hoping N'Zogbia comes good this season, we all know what he's capable of.
Last season I went with him in my fantasy team from the off, and obviously that didn't work out!
On form he could definitely be one of the best players in the team.

He's a great player, and I expect a lot more from him this year (we'll need it).

Simpson is apparently 'likely' to sign. Would be alright as first choice-right back, and it'd be good to see the back on Hutton.

Do we need another RB though? We've just signed Lowton, plus Lichaj and Herd can play there.
