C4 Cartesian Equation Question

X= Cosec t

Y= 6 Cot t

Work out Cartesian Equation.

Could anyone show me how to do this one please?

x = \frac {1}{sint}

y = \frac {6cos t}{sin t}

Usually you have to use

sin^2 + cos^2 = 1

But here you could (and should) probably use

1 + cot^2 = cosec^2

, so don't rearrange x and y like I have just done if you're going to do it this way.

Square your x and y, and use the identity

\mathrm{cosec}^2x \equiv \mathrm{cot}^2x+1

, to get both in terms of cosec or cot and you should be able to eliminate your parameter.
