Re: Newcastle United F.C Society Thread II
Yeah, Ameobi's role as a late substitute really works. He's very good at holding up the ball and works hard. He's not a miracle worker, but Pardew is playing him to his strengths these days.
Plus:
Robert's volley vs. Spurs
Shearer's volley vs. Everton
Cisse's volley vs. Chelsea
All set up by Shola. Plus the fact he always scores past Sunderland. He's a legend. -
Re: Newcastle United F.C Society Thread IIAlso he's a genius and there have been so many brilliant Ameobi jokes over the years.(Original post by Stu Laverty)

Re: Newcastle United F.C Society Thread IIWho's Xisco?(Original post by SJS101)
I seriously think we need to get rid off some dead wood, and buy in a mixture of top quality and bargains
Get rid of smithy, xisco, lovenkrands and OBERTAN <<<< HE'S ****E!
Keep Guthrie and Simpson, (rumours that they are leaving?????)
And sign the likes of Hoillet, Demspsey and Moses if they are cheap enough!
Then look abroad for another striker who is not african, brazilian league would be a good place to look, as well as another Winger, Centre back and possibly Left Back or Right Back
Spoiler:Showjoke
But Obertan is the type of squad of player you need. He was decent in his early games, in my opinion. Even if the final product is lacking he's still worth having as a sub late on in games when opposition players tire.
Whether he'll be happy with a squad role, and how much it will hinder his development, we'll have to see. It's probably the best he can get in the PL though. -
Re: Newcastle United F.C Society Thread IIHe's looked pretty terrible, but there's no doubt his pace could be an asset. I think the vast improvements to Perch under Pardew this season suggest the same could happen to Obertan with the right attitude. I'd hardly complain if we sold him mind...(Original post by River85)

Re: Newcastle United F.C Society Thread IISince the start of 2012 I think he's been excellent - really impressed in every game apart from the Spurs game, where just about everyone was awful. Very valuable squad player to have and he should definitely start ahead of Simpson tomorrow.(Original post by Stu Laverty)
Perch must be the most improved player in the Premier League this season. He's not a world beater or anything, but he's much better than he used to be. -
Re: Newcastle United F.C Society Thread IIAgreed. Simpson still has a knock so hopefully he won't be able to play anyway.(Original post by MrPhil)

Re: Newcastle United F.C Society Thread II
We actually have decent strength in depth now.
Generally it's accepted that you should have two players for every position, and if you look at our second team atm it's actually pretty damn strong.
Krul
Simpson Coloccini Saylor Santon
Guttierez Tiote Cabaye
Ben Arfa Cisse Ba
SoderbergElliot
Raylor Perch Williamson Ferguson
Marveaux Guthrie Gosling Obertan
Best Ameobi
Other: Vuckic, Abeid, Lovenkrands, Sammy
As has been suggested we probably need a full back and a centre back, but after that I don't think we''d be desperate for anyone else.Last edited by scriggy; 05-05-2012 at 11:33. -

Other than that you have a fair point! (also you forgot Nile Ranger *cough*)

Re: Newcastle United F.C Society Thread IIOh well, that completely passed me by.(Original post by Chriswuk)

And I'm hoping Ranger goes the same way.

Re: Newcastle United F.C Society Thread IIDo you consider the Carling cup and FA cup major trophies?(Original post by Stu Laverty)
Win a trophy (assuming this was aimed at Newcastle fans).
Bearing in mind, we're a club that hasn't won anything major for the better part of 50 years. -
Re: Newcastle United F.C Society Thread IIPretty sure we do but he's another I think we will lose in the summer since I think he's after first team football which he isn't gonna get here.(Original post by KingGoonIan)
Do we still own Forster?Last edited by Chriswuk; 05-05-2012 at 12:10. -
Re: Newcastle United F.C Society Thread IIRelatively speaking, yes. For a team like Man Utd it's probably not because they win trophies almost every year, but for a team like us who are unlikely to win the league or Champions League anytime in the near future, it's definitely a major trophy.(Original post by Darth Vader 7)

The Carling Cup isn't a major trophy though, but I'd still be happy to see us win it. -
Re: Newcastle United F.C Society Thread IIMakes sense. I thought taking part in the CL would be bigger for a club like you than Carling cup/FA cup.(Original post by Stu Laverty)
