    Pre-internship knowledge
I'll be interning in IBD this summer and i've been told there's going to be a training course. But i realized i know very little about M&A (I'll be in an industry group but it'll mostly be M&A) and valuations..

I know some basic corporate finance from school, economics, lots of theory and math, plus what I thought myself through trading, investing and following reuters, bloomberg markets etc...

I think some other interns are better prepared because they're postgraduates or have had spring internships last year. Is the fact that I'm going in blank affect my chances of getting a job offer at the end?

Unlikely you'll be doing any real modelling as an intern, but you still need to be proficient with Excel, Word & Powerpoint. In terms of technical knowledge WSO Technical guide & Vault Guide to Finance Interviews are a good starting point, and loads of resources on the net to learn from.

Just learn the basics of valuation models and you should be fine. Don't be intimidated just because other interns may know more than you, after all, it is only an internship, and your not expected to be an expert.

the importance of knowledge of valuation models is very overrated

Is it worth the money? What is general opinion about other courses WSO is marketing?

Mergers, Acquisitions, and Other Restructuring Activities by DePamphilis

Investment Banking: Valuation, Leveraged Buyouts, and Mergers and Acquisitions by Joshua Rosenbaum

Equity Asset Valuation by PINTO JERALD E. - HENRY ELAINE - ROBINSON THOMAS - STOWE JOHN D.

    ...and you should be "fine".

I have some familiarity with the courses referred to above (not WSO but the video one with some Asian guy) and tbh, if you go to http://macabacus.com/ you get basically the same thing. also IB by Rosenbaum is good (as mentioned above).
