Re: Official CHRISTOPHER HITCHENS Appreciation ThreadI see, I thought you were criticizing me in the other post, my apologies.(Original post by FrigidSymphony)
In reference especially to the comments about "Islamophobia", I am routinely told whenever I speak up about the threats to freedom of speech and intellectual liberty posed by religions in general and the "one monotheism in particular" that I am engaging in bigoted behaviour and racism towards a specific religion. When I attempt to criticize treatment of women in certain cultures, I am told that I have no right to judge, and indeed accused of sexism myself for daring to hold a view that there is an objective standard of ethics regarding gender relations. And that's just a percentage. -

Re: Official CHRISTOPHER HITCHENS Appreciation ThreadTraining runs?(Original post by FrigidSymphony)
Ever go watch the training runs through Tesco?
Joking aside, congratulations on your (somewhat fortuitous) promotion! Looking forward to the derby this season.
Cheers, We should have been given the same treatment Livingston got when they went into administration a few years ago. Sort of, I always work on Saturdays and Sundays so I doubt I'll get to see many of the games

Chin up, derby games might get frequent midweek scheduling for policing matters or something related. I'm lucky enough to be the supervisor at my pub so I can give myself days off for the games (next up- Sellout Saturday on the 11th, Aberdeen v Ross County, and Neil Simpson's Testimonial on the 14th, Aberdeen v Manchester United). -

Great guy! It's a shame I discovered his work AFTER his death.

Re: Official CHRISTOPHER HITCHENS Appreciation ThreadDepends what you are looking for, if you want a list of all the ways in which religion is bad, this is the book for you. If you want a balanced investigation into the good and bad of the phenomenon of religion, perhaps you should be looking elsewhere else(Original post by Dima-Blackburn)

By the way, I haven't read 'God is Not Great'. Would you recommend it?
but that's just Hitch's style, he's not passive and submissive, he's assertive and arrogant, and we love him for it
