Re: The Cambridge Chat Thread - it's over 90,000!May balls are generally a rip off. I've just sold my Jesus May ball ticket because a mutual close friend of the friend I was going with desperately wanted it and offered to pay me double

Meanwhile I've got my thesis, and committed to the ball before I knew I'd get an extension, so it seemed sensible. The friend I was going with doesn't mind.
What is brilliant is that they're running Sidney Sussex Arts festival again, which I've just discovered. It's like a day time May ball but cheap, better entertainment and fun. No free alcohol, but free ice cream and a hog roast. I'm aiming to go to that. Somehow with May balls I always feel pressurised to have the best time of my life for the money I'm paying, and its therefore always a let down. Whereas with something like this there's no pressure so I just have a great time.Last edited by Craghyrax; 11-06-2011 at 14:38. -

It was really lovely, and I was really sad last year when it didn't happen again. I assumed it was a one-off, since they were celebrating a college anniversary at the time, but now it seems they're making it a bi-annual tradition. I just saw the banner outside Sainsburys yesterday and got super excited

Re: The Cambridge Chat Thread - it's over 90,000!PRSOM. Link? It sounds awesome. I picked up a full length dress in TKMaxx yesterday for £50, although hopefully I'll be returning it as my friend should be lending me one. But it is lovely and part of me hopes it doesn't have to go back!(Original post by Melz0r)
May Ball dress arrived; £55, really comfy, and it has pockets. I may not be a proper girl, but this is the best thing ever.
Tempted to go and revise in it. -

I was joking...
Indeed.(Original post by ArchedEdge)
Still, if she willing chooses Oxford over Cambridge then we damn well don't want her!!
In fact, we never wanted her in the first place.

To be honest that is a fantastic return, by buying the tickets... Do you reckon its a good idea to buy may ball tickets like St Johns and sell them to people for much higher? -

It's not that smart or shiny but I plan to dress up with shiny accessories. Victory. -
Re: The Cambridge Chat Thread - it's over 90,000!It certainly isn't a very nice thing to do, because it just drives up the prices for the people who actually want to go. Also, I'm not sure whether all balls allow you to change the name on the tickets, I think most of them (including Trinity) will allow you to change your guest's name but not yours if you're the ticket holder. And if you manage to get a Trinity ticket, your girlfriend/boyfriend/best friend will be very disappointed if you decided to sell the guest one for double the price instead of taking them.(Original post by ebam_uk)

Um, I'm not particularly interested in whether it is or isn't. I did this for a friend, not to make money. That was incidental. To be honest that is a fantastic return, by buying the tickets... Re: The Cambridge Chat Thread - it's over 90,000!Dresses with pockets FTW. My current formal dress is a wraparound maroon one with embroidered polka dots (sounds odd but is awesome and cost nothing as I got it in a clothes swap) and it HAS POCKETS!(Original post by Melz0r)
