it's odd to think that most of my friends are graduating this year and i'll (hopefully) still be around.

kind of sleepwalked into that one... -
Re: The Cambridge Chat Thread - it's over 90,000!
Weirdest thing I've seen in quite a long time:
Dutch artist turns dead cat into a helicopter
Link goes to a German news website, but you really only need to see the pictures. It's so weird, I don't even know whether I think it's distasteful or not. -
Re: The Cambridge Chat Thread - it's over 90,000!I'm moving out of my place at the end of may week, you can totally have my room. (You might even be lucky enough not to walk in on people having sex).(Original post by Stratocaster)
Do you guys have any tips on hunting for accommodation in Cambridge? Anything in particular I should know or particular areas to look out for?
I'm graduating at the very end of this month like everyone, but I'm starting working at a college straight after graduation, although I don't have to find somewhere until the start of August. Just registered with the Accommodation Service.
/joke
The accommodation service is good, and I also second looking on Gumtree. -
Re: The Cambridge Chat Thread - it's over 90,000!
I've apparently got to give notice that I'm moving out now.
I know mid-September is aaaaages away, but I don't want to leave Germany. Although, I think it'll be good for me to come back home. My life is starting to revolve far too much around baking, for one thing. I've thought about this properly. Like, on a completely mundane domestic level, on the one hand I'll have easy access to essential items like Golden Syrup and Clotted Cream in England, but on the other hand, no oven in college to bake with in the first place.

People who have already graduated: what is the business with the gown on graduation? Do I need a different gown to my undergraduate one? I have vaguely researched but it's not proving easy to discover (possibly due to tiredness) and therefore I thought I would just ask.

You only get bumped up to the next level of gown after graduating from this degree.

Re: The Cambridge Chat Thread - it's over 90,000!Wonderful - saving money always makes me happy. So all I need is the furry hood thing then? (And the money for dry cleaning to get the footprint/soup stains out of my gown(Original post by Craghyrax)

Re: The Cambridge Chat Thread - it's over 90,000!Yeah, you can rent all you need from one of the posh clothes shops (E&R, R&A, etc.). I seem to remember it was something like "BA Hood and Bands" that was required, but they'll know.(Original post by Zoedotdot)

Re: The Cambridge Chat Thread - it's over 90,000!Indeed! You wear the gown of the highest degree already conferred. Puzzled me a lot when I got my MA wearing the BA gown.(Original post by Craghyrax)

This does mean, of course, that the highest degree has no gown associated with it

Re: The Cambridge Chat Thread - it's over 90,000!
A bit of a random question, but does anyone have any experience in selling their old textbooks? Should I use eBay, Amazon, some other specialist 2nd hand textbook website, etc.? Or is it not worth it and should I just give them to the local Oxfam or other charity shop? They're probably a bit out of date but in good condition and still useful as the content really wouldn't have changed much. My main objective is to get rid of them in the process of tidying up in order to move house, but if I can get some money as well then obviously that would be a plus.

Re: The Cambridge Chat Thread - it's over 90,000!I bought my old ones off Amazon, but I just sold my old ones on to my college son. You can probably get a few quid for them, especially if they're relatively recent editions, and now's the time to put them online to get sales in advance of next year. Failing that, is it worth seeing if your college might want them? If they're going to a non-Cambridge charity shop, I don't know that they'd see that much interest.(Original post by alex_hk90)

Re: The Cambridge Chat Thread - it's over 90,000!I didn't think of the college library, thanks! I reckon they would probably take at least some of them.(Original post by lp386)

And you're right, I'd probably need to give them to the Cambridge charity shops, which is fine as I'm going there at least a couple of times in the next few weeks anyway.

Re: The Cambridge Chat Thread - it's over 90,000!You do need a hood though, I booked mine online with E&R, hiring for grad weekend only (now I just need to pass...). FWIW they say on their website that they can't guarantee you stuff if you don't book 21 days in advance. Might just be them trying to get people to book early, but I guess it's worth sorting out soon.(Original post by Zoedotdot)

Sunny and pretty but not hot. Just warm with a fresh breeze.
