Default Unsure

I am interested in having a career in environmental conservation, however, I am unsure as to what degree would be most appropriate for this.

I am thinking possibly Geography or Ecology?

Well an environmental mgt. degree would be useful, but for env. conservation work ecology would possiably be best. However most env. mgt. degrees will encoperate ecology with other areas of environmental management such as pollution etc.
May i recomend the university of northumbria as v good.

I think it's basically biology, geography and anywhere in between. A lot of unis do biological science degrees where you start of doing a general course and then specialise, and i know some offer ecology and conservation as sepcialisms. I think ecology on its own straight away is a bit too specific. An environmental science degree allows you to explore many topics and choose which ones to follow further so i think that would be worth looking into. Geography is a way into conservation since it deals with the relationship between the human and physical environments. I think environmental science acts as a good cross over between biology and geography and includes a lot of ecology at some unis, and if you are already pretty sure you want to go into conservation this in my opinion is a good path to take.

I agree with all thats been said above, but just thought I'd add that Durham do a Geography and Environmental Management course, as probably do a lot of other unis (only know about this one because I go there!), so maybe thats a course you could consider, seeing as it will probably take you directly into your chosen career?

Edit: just realised that ali567149 does Geography and environmental management, so you're probably better off asking him about it!

I was also very interested in one stage at going into conservation so i had a look around the courses. Edinburgh as well as doing Geography, ecology and environmental science also does a Geography and/with (not sure which) environmental studies course, which for some reason is an MA.
St Andrews does Geography with Environmental biology
Southampton does a very good environmental science degree as well as a management one i think, where you can specialise in one of several areas.

UCL does an Environmental Biology course (has plenty of options) that looks pretty decent and also an Environmental Geography degree, but that looks less useful for you.

Anyways, I think the combined courses that have been mentioned previously are the best bet.

All courses in scotland come up as an MA, and are genrally a 4 year ordeal! unless you get an excelled enterance, as they don't do A levels in that far of land of the SCOT!
Conservation! might not be the best degree subject as its need a strong pratical base so if you want to be a tree hugging park ranger, most places want an NVQ and the dreaded "2-5 years relevent experience".

No not all courses in Scotland are MA. As far as i know since they are all 4 year the Arts degrees are MA, but for some reason, despite the science courses also being 4 years, they are BSc instead. My comment was expressing confusion at the fact that a 4 year science -type geography course is a BSc, but the science typre geography with environmental studies course, another science, was an MA.
