UCLU Summer jobs?

Hello, I've just finished my first yeat at UCL and I would like a job. I've been looking at jobs through the UCl JobShop and have applied for a couple, but have noticed that they don't list the jobs at the shops/cafes. Is this because there is a lot of competition for these jobs? I would've imagined these sort of jobs would be readily available, especially in the summer(I dont live too far from UCL so I can work throughout the summer). Apart from applying online, is it worth it to go into the shops/cafes and ask for vacancies? Also, those who have jobs through the JobShop, how easy is it for someone with no previous experience to get a job?
