I got 5As and 6A*s and I did the IB not A levels and I got 41 points which is like A* A* A. But my offer was the equivalent of AAA. Though now its A*AA I think for quite a lot of courses at Durham! As long as your predicted grades are fine for your course there shouldn't be a problem. I personally think that the personal statement is THE most important as everyone who applies has similar grades so spend lots of time on it and make sure its original. Look on the internet for idea (obviously dont copy) but for structure e.t.c and add lots of your own interpretations if you mention reading specific books e.t.c! Hope that helps x

that's great thank you did you go to a grammar school at gcse?

my problem is that i went to a comp school up to my gcses and received OK results; 2A*'s and 9 As but i have recently moved to a top grammar school for A levels and right now my potential is extending greatly and i'm predicted straight As (excluding general studies) for AS - hopefully i'll have an A* or two for A2 if i receive the right results. When i went to visit Durham, it hit all the right buttons for the course i want to do - Geography - so i really loved it. Do you think they understand where i'm coming from? I was at an average school therefore my potential was limited but i have in the past year surpassed all expectations.`Oh god, i'm desperate for Durham!

    woops - i meant predicted A2 :P
are you in year 12? if so, how can you predict yourself A*s without first receiving your AS results and secondly discussing them with your teachers?

I got 6A*s 3As and 2Bs at GCSE, I am hoping to get 4As at AS and will be applying for Maths. I have no idea which college to apply to, I am looking for a historic college, good for sport and in the centre of Durham. Any suggestions?

Firstly your GSCE's are fine anyway especially with those predicted grades at A level.. secondly going to a comp may actually put you at an advantage (actually will most definately) because universities understand this and they look to take people from schools where they have achieved much much higher than the standard appose to a top grammar or private schools with mostly straight A*s at gcse.. I went to a top achieving school but we were always told that this is not an advantage at all!! you will be at an advantage so dont worry and your grades are fine anyway!! Durham is awesome I hope it works out for you.. and work on making the personal statement really good Good luck!!

    Hiya!

Your looking at the bailey colleges! (at the centre)

They are the more traditional.. as for sporty St Hild and St Bede have a reputation for being the most sporty as they have large grounds and lots of facilities. It is about a 5 minute walk from the centre but is still regarded as a bailey college mostly. It does not have gowns but is still quite traditional. If you really want gowns go for Hatfield who are also quite sporty and a bit larger than the St johns and St Chads. But its a really over subscribed college so be aware you might be moved! College choice wont affect you getting in though the department decides that. There are also some gowned and sporty colleges on the hill which are about a 10-15 minute walk to the centre but really near the science site and no where is far in Durham! Look at the prospectus to make your choice easier! good luck

    Hey:awesome:

GCSE results: 2A* 7A B B C (Although one A and the C are Citizenship and Religious Studies, which don't count I suppose)
Predicted A-levels (based on my own predictions, rather than my teachers' ) : A*A*A*A
    Course applying for: Maths
Why Durham: Hmmm....High up for maths, sounds like a nice place, Geordie accent (well not really)

Will the possible extra A* make up for my GCSEs d'you think?

Hey there Well done on your GCSE results
Umm well as for your A2 predictions, dont you think its a tad early to say so? I'm also desperate for an A* but its going to be so hard i think :/ Three A*s are a bit steep before you've even received your AS results don't you think? But if you do get them results then great, well done and i wish you all the best

Durham said they do look at GCSEs but other factors of your application are far more important i.e. the personal statement x

Perhaps it is a bit optimistic of me...The A*s are maths and further maths (which I'll need anyway if I'm going for Cambridge as well), and German, which I've always been a bit ahead of the game on; but I might get a shock on results day...if so, Aberystwyth it is I've done my maths A2 a year early so I'll know soon what I've got. Thank you for the reply

I'm not saying at all that you wont get them but if you work hard i am sure you will ah yes, it seems a lot of people seem to do well in maths - i guess with that subject it's you've either got it or you haven't and you clearly have that type of brain in that case. Good luck i'm so nervous...

Thanks Suppose so, I think about 40% of people who take maths get an A, so people only really bother with it if they think they'll do well...Nervous about results day? Hey don't worry, we've done our best, it's decided either way. Nothing to do about it now, we may as well just relax. If it's gone well, great; if not, there's still somewhere that'll have us.

Good! I'm on holiday on results day anyway, so I dunno how I'm going to get mine...I think my maths and German is with Edexcel, no idea about history, physics and chemistry are OCR. Why?
