Cognitive Approach - HELP

Im really stuck on the 12 marker for the cognitive one  .. the 'discuss the stregnths and weeknesses of the cognitive approach using examples from any cognitive approach studies'

all i have is :
one weakness is we cannot directly see how the mind works and so many psychologists question its validilty as it just a matter of 'guesswork'. When we want to investigate thought processes we cannot be sure that our exp is measuring thr thoughts (as we cannot see them, so our results are only ever going to be as good as the experiemnt the investigator constucted) For example. baron-cogen used eyes as they said that it would measure pps theory of mind due to the forced mental state terms they were forced to choose between but for example the whole face wouldnt measure the cognitive process which is TOM as it would just measure basic emotion recognition which is very different . However we still cannot be sure that TOM was being measured in this study as people with autism/asperges are said to lack eye contact so they may actually get their understanding of mental states by other means such as body language meaning their mean of 16.3 sould have been a lot higher.

SOMEONE TELL ME IF THATS EVEN RIGHT?
Your argument is correct but your spelling shocking! Baron Cohen is also mispelt and should have capital letters.

Another weakness is that this approach ignores the influence of other factors such as biological factors and learning. For example, investigations into the effect of cognitive therapy on disorders such as phobias ignore genetic factors which have been shown to be important. They also ignore the role of reinforcement in the acquisition of behaviours such as avoidance of phobic stimuli.

The cognitive approach also takes quite a mechanistic approach to the person and ignores free will by insisting that behaviour is the result of cognitive processing. The humanistic appraoch and our own experience would assert that we have the ability to choose our own behaviours free from other influences such as they way in which we process information. This is also supported by the finding that people can produce novel and creative behaviour that has not been predicted.

Hope this helps.
