Remind me what we had to do again. Prove that the equation equaled "A" right? I don't remember =\

yeah basically.. 2 of the triangles were the same so they were x(10-x) (you would have to divide by 2, then multiply by 2 as there are 2 congruent triangles) the other two were x(8-x)

so the area of the 4 triangles altogether ere 10x-x^2+8x-x^2 = 18x-2x^2
the area of the rectangle was 80cm
so the area of the quad in the middle ould be 80-(18x-2x^2)
which equals 80-18x+2x^2.. which rearramnges to 2x^2-18x=80
Reply 45
yeah you had to prove that the area was something like 2x^2 -18x + 80
Reply 46
sorry i mean A=2x^2-18+80

Fixed. =P.

Basically what he said, minusing the areas of the triangles around the square from 80.

Some of the people in my year used pythag to get the length of PQRS. It's more complicated IMo and I'm not sure if it worked.

haha i seriously can't type! yeah haha that =P

Anyways when does a rough mark scheme come out? I'm new to the student room so I don't really know how long it'll take for the IGCSE paper 3 msc to come out. Would it come out before the paper 4 this friday?
My teacher said that the stuff that should come up in the next paper is
-Recurring and terminating decimals
-expressing percentage as a fraction
-simple standard form questions
-HCM and HCF
-Prime factors and trees
-Sequences
-Graphs- speed/distance time graph, conversion graph
-Finding gradient of curve using a tangent
-Linear inequalities
-regions of a graph defined by inequalities
-linear equations
-linear simultaneous equations
-harder factorisations
-solving quadratic equations
-simplification of algebraic fractions
-Indices, surds ,functions
differentiation- velocity, acceleration
properties of quadrilaterals ,construction
enlargemnt and translation ,bearings, cosine rule
intersecting chords ,vectors, histograms, quartiles

hope this helps! x

Talking about sequences here. For the sake of some of the people in my year, geometric sequences aren't required by us to remember right? We don't need to remember all the 1st number x common ration to the power of the term minus 1 right? And also the formulae for the sum of a gemoetric sequence.
