Mechanics Problem?

In a circus, two clowns, Biggo and Littlo have mass 74 kg and 24 kg.
They stand facing each other on platforms at a height of 10m above the floor and at the same instant they step off their platforms ancd grab the rope (that is hung over a fixed smooth rail).

How fast is Biggo moving when he lands on the floor?

I know this is a pulley problem but I cannot work out the acceleration; what would the accelaration be for a 24kg mass on one side and 74kg mass on the other side.

The answer is 10ms-1 (we know u = 0, s = 10 and we need to calculate a)

ok well Biggo will go down, littlo up

Make two equations that show all vertical forces + motion, make them equal to ma. Tension should cancel out when you add them, then you have a linear equation to find a, and substitute it into v^2=u^2 + 2as
