Re: Teach First 2012 OFFICIAL Application / Ass Centre threadGreat! Ru from London? Im coming down from Manchester! Will u graduate this year or have you had a year out?(Original post by star2899)

Re: Teach First 2012 OFFICIAL Application / Ass Centre thread
I have finished my application and am pretty much ready to send it off. It's quite exciting how quickly all of you got your ACs!
I would really like this, but I am worried that I am not going to be good enough. I found it quite hard to write about leadership skills somehow, I do have a lot of voluntary positions but nothing really where I am a 'leader' if that makes sense. But I tried my best. -
Re: Teach First 2012 OFFICIAL Application / Ass Centre threadI am having the same problem of talking about being a leader. Would anyone mind saying what examples they are using? How recent do people think the experience should be?(Original post by Buecherwurm)

R.e. Leadership
Ever been on a committee of a uni society?
Ever had a job with kids where you were in charge of a group?
Ever had a part time job where you were the most experienced person and had to train up new staff?
Been part of a study group/presentation group on your course?
Oldest child in your family? (being serious, but you have to think of some good examples)
Section leader in a choir/orchestra? -
Re: Teach First 2012 OFFICIAL Application / Ass Centre thread
I used work experience with children for both. In the first one I actually lead groups of them by myself. The second one is in schools so I am not really working independently a lot, but have said what I have learned by observing and doing small tasks and why those things are important in a leader.

How are you feeling about the AC?Last edited by star2899; 29-06-2011 at 14:28. -
Re: Teach First 2012 OFFICIAL Application / Ass Centre threadThe 8th of August isn't late when they have many ACs going into the following year...don't panic!(Original post by heymelon)
My AC date is the 8th August - why's mine so late?!
Quite worrying considering applicants are taken on a rolling basis, and A LOT of people seem to be doing English!
Does anyone know roughly how many English openings there are? -
Re: Teach First 2012 OFFICIAL Application / Ass Centre threadI think the stats I saw on Monday *might be wrong* were around 5000 applicants, half of which were whittled down before interview. So about 2500 for 800 places nationwide. About a 1 in 3 chance.(Original post by misseckleburg)
Quite a strange question - but does anyone know what the success rate is like at the AC? Someone said 80% to me, but that can't be true! -
Re: Teach First 2012 OFFICIAL Application / Ass Centre threadHaha enjoy Summer Institute. I was knackered by the end of it...started lagging in week 4.(Original post by Phonicsdude)
hahahaha im on the first week and it's awesome. -
Re: Teach First 2012 OFFICIAL Application / Ass Centre threadGlad you are enjoying the institute. Where are you going afterwards?(Original post by Phonicsdude)

Those stats don't look too bad actually! I would have thought they take less people somehow. Still scary though
Question to all the girls preparing for their interview. I am currently looking online for something to wear as I don't own a suit. If I find an appropriate dress, would I necessarily need a blazer? -
Re: Teach First 2012 OFFICIAL Application / Ass Centre threadI'm wearing a smart dress and a cardigan. I don't THINK you need a blazer - wear something smart but comfortable so you can be yourself!(Original post by Buecherwurm)
