Re: University of Essex: Ask A Student Thread / Information Thread :)
A few questions regarding accom, if you guys don't mind.
Do we (applicants for 12-13) get an email closer to go-live date for accom applications?
How does the application process work? forms and what-not or something else?
The website says I need a PRID for it. What's a PRID?
And I firmed Essex ages ago. Am I meant to have received anything?
Sorry for the questions but the info website is awful. -
Re: University of Essex: Ask A Student Thread / Information Thread :)
I got and accepted my offer on the 9th of June last year. I was sent an email the next day prompting me register an external email address w/ the university in order to sign up for myEssex - https://www.essex.ac.uk/apply (I think the PRID, a personal reference no. shows up here some time after registration - I think you should be able to click on 'register external email address' if you haven't already). I didn't get an email to say accommodation applications had opened until the 1st of July.
The e-form wasn't very long: name, current address, dob, tel, PRID, email, course, 1st, 2nd and 3rd preferences, gender and smoking preferences. I was sent an offer almost immediately because I wasn't waiting on any grades, but I think if you're waiting on A level grades, they don't make the offer until the results are out. -
Re: University of Essex: Ask A Student Thread / Information Thread :)when i applied last year i couldnt do my accom untilll summer i think... i wouldnt worry about it too much as i dont think its 1st come 1st serve... + its not like theres limited accom... presuming you were talking about accommodation that is(Original post by Beebumble)
Don't worry I firmed ages ago too and haven't heard a peep out of them since. I'd have thought they'd at least send an email saying "thanks for firming us" or something! -
Re: University of Essex: Ask A Student Thread / Information Thread :)
Is there a difference between large en suite and single en suite other than the size? I want to put in for large en suite but not if it is more expensive.
Ah just found the large ones are more expensive. Single it is!Last edited by Beebumble; 06-06-2012 at 11:28. -

Re: University of Essex: Ask A Student Thread / Information Thread :)Yup you can select larger rooms for south courts, the quays and houses. They're really expensive though.(Original post by good morning)

Re: University of Essex: Ask A Student Thread / Information Thread :)I tell you now, if you're looking at anything but the Towers do not expect a buzzin' social life.(Original post by Beebumble)

I'm not looking for a 'buzzin' social life. I just want some mates who I can go down the pub with go clubbing and to parties every now and then but I'm really not the party 24/7 kind of girl. -
Re: University of Essex: Ask A Student Thread / Information Thread :)quays, houses and south courts are all single rooms... they are just larger and have an en suite unlike the towers & houses(Original post by Beebumble)

i currently live in the quays and to be honest i wish i lived in the towers as its much more social. i was just lucky with my flatmates in the quays & we're like the only flat that goes out of the whole quays... -
Re: University of Essex: Ask A Student Thread / Information Thread :)You only get an unconditional offer if you actually have those grades. You could be predicted 20 A*'s but will still won't get an unconditional until you've actually met those grades.(Original post by foodnom)
heyy
does anyone know of someone who has recieved an unconditional offer?
I'm hoping to apply next year for an AAB course.... so if i was predicted A*AA would i get an unconditional?

Re: University of Essex: Ask A Student Thread / Information Thread :)Unconditional offers are given to people who already hold their grades. Those who have completed A-levels already have have their grades(Original post by foodnom)

If you are predicted A*AA/ haven't completed A-levels yet, you will get a conditional offer of AAB still -
Re: University of Essex: Ask A Student Thread / Information Thread :)Not really, as long as you are not doing one off the very few degree that doesn't allow you(Original post by T-Toe)
It is hard to get a term abroad?
Normally you just have to get 55% in the first year -
Re: University of Essex: Ask A Student Thread / Information Thread :)Ok so if I go to a university abroad for the summer term. Will I still do the same modules there? Will I have to sit my exams there?(Original post by WhatTheFunk)

Re: University of Essex: Ask A Student Thread / Information Thread :)I dunno if you are allowed to go in the summer term. The people who I know did the study abroad went for a term during the 1st or 2nd term, or did the whole year(Original post by T-Toe)

Depends on that University of College you go to and how they work it out, but you will do modules in your degree subject and do any exams that come with it -
Re: University of Essex: Ask A Student Thread / Information Thread :)The towers really aren't as noisy as you would imagine. I'm not at all the party girl type but choosing towers was by far one of the best decisions I've made. Everyone I know who is in houses or quays says how much they hate it, and that they wished they had chosen towers. Even if you hate it, a month in there were loads of notices around the tower noticeboard from people living in the quays/houses that were desperate to swap for a towers room so you could always have that as a backup.(Original post by Beebumble)

Re: University of Essex: Ask A Student Thread / Information Thread :)
I'm an international exchange student from Canada and I have to submit my accommodation application.
I'm really liking the Towers.
Is there a place that I can see pictures online of all of the accommodations?
And which one is better - the North (A or B?) or South Towers? -

Depends really North seem to get better people living there. But then south is cheaper
The main difference is in north you are sharing between 13 or 14 with 4 showers in 4 loos in 2 of the towers and 3 loos and 2 showers in the other one (never a issue)
South is 16 people with 4 loos and 2 showers
