The Stansted Express to Liverpool Street will be around £14 for a single ticket if you have a railcard. Then you can jump on the tube to Kings Cross for £2 if you have an oyster card.

and one more question , for the way back, if i book a flight with ryanair (stansted airport) departing 12:20 pm,which means that i need also some time earlier to be there,

if i start from kings cross around 7:30 am do think by using tube and stansted express as u advised me, i will arrive at the airport on time?
    many thanks

If you start your journey at King's Cross I'd probably advise you to take the Victoria line up to Tottenham Hale and catch the Stansted Express from there. Just checked National Rail, and it says Stansted bound trains stop at Tottenham Hale at 7, 22, 37 and 52 minutes past the hour in the morning peak.

If you leave King's Cross at 7:30 am, take the Victoria line to Tottenham Hale and catch the Stansted Express to the airport, you'll get there at about 8:45.

12:20 departure means get there around 10:20.. so you might want to consider leaving slightly later.

Hello everyone, I will be next year at Winchester (WSA) so I was wondering if it does exist a "pass" for travelling from winchester to southampton by train? (like a bus-pass) ?

I'm a bit worried that my loan won't cover my travel costs. I'll need to travel home pretty much every weekend, by train, using a return ticket (hopefully one of the anytime tickets, though I'm not really confident with trains so I don't know!)

How much do people who live around an hour from home spend on travel a week? (I've been trying to work out accomodation, but I need to factor train costs before I can make a solid decision on how cheap my accomodation should be)

Sorry if this is really jumbled and confusing!

we need to know where you're travelling to and from. train fares aren't based on journey time.

all that can be suggested now, is either book well in advance (12 weeks is the maximum) to get the best prices. Get a railcard. And maybe consider the coach, either on National Express or Megabus. National Express do coachcards too for some discounts. Or go home less often, if you can. And get a job, if you can.

Is it possible to get a train from Cardiff to Edinburgh? If so, how many times would you have to change?

I don't believe so, you can change once at either Manchester Piccadilly or Birmingham New Street (or change in London but may be more expensive).

You'll have to change at least once. Generally Birmingham New Street, but occasionally if you're travelling at the right time of day you can get on a train at Bristol Parkway. I prefer the latter just cause I always like to be on a train for as long as possible instead of changing and breaking the journey up into little bits.

Another option is to take a bus to London (National Express or Megabus), and then get a train from King's Cross. I do this quite often because if you get it enough in advance, it can be cheaper.

Thank you! Any idea how long it takes? I looked on the trainline and it said 6 hours, which I thought was quite short...

    Which way?

Cardiff --> London by bus is about 3 and a half hours, then London --> Edinburgh is 5-6 hours (depends on which service you're on). This does make the journey quite long, but if it's cheaper it's not a problem for me.

If I remember correctly, Birmingham --> Edinburgh is about 5 hours, plus the 2 or so hours it takes from Cardiff --> Birmingham.

If I get a return train ticket, and the return time I choose is for 23:40 the same day as going there, but I miss that can I get the 00:40 train? Just wondering in case maybe the return is only for that date?

Getting to school in London by train.. is there a cheaper alternative??
So ive just finished MY GCSEs and planning on going to a school which takes 15 minutes by train and 45 minutes by bus. Ive seen other school students get to school by train everyday im just wondering is there a cheaper alternative then spending 2 to 3 pound every journey.
This is a new experience ive never had to get a train everyday, help would be nice

Get an oyster card, you'll save tons by being a student under 18.

    Hope that helped

Weekly travelcard on the oyster. Usually saves you money by giving unlimited travel for a week rather than paying individually for each trip.
