Exams screw us all over. I haven't done C25k since September when I started my masters year and all hell broke loose! It's remarkably easy to put on weight. Like you though, it's summer and I will be starting running again soon. This thread is a nice constant reminder!

Try sports direct. I picked up a nice pair there for about £30 which is probably about as cheep as you're going to get.
Thanks =) Since my birthday is coming up I'll probably ask for trainers. Hadn't though of Sports Direct before.

I've just started this week (after reading Mum on the Run inspired me to do so). Tonight will now be my 5th run.
I think the part I hate most about the running is having to run when no-one is in the park at risk of being spotted . I go with my dog so at least it looks normal...to some extent anyway.
I also need to get proper shoes; borrowing my mums still. Does anyone know of anywhere that sells decent trainers but ones that aren't too expensive? Currently on a tight budget...
I bought myself some Asics off of eBay for £25. They were brand new and the price sticker inside said £75. Bargain!

I was tempted to buy online but I was concerned that if they didn't really fit there could be issues sending them back. Since most ebayers have returns policies, I suppose I could give it a try.
That really was a bargain to save £50!

Week five, run 1 wasn't as bad as I was expecting. Especially for the last five minutes because it was downhill and I felt epic!

The sun is definitely the devil that doesn't want me to run, though. SO hot and this was pre-9am!

Done W5D2 don't think I'm quite ready for the 20 minute jog so I think I'll do the 8 minutes again and see how I feel.

I tried re-starting C25K a few months ago, knackering my knee in the process. I finish university for summer on Tuesday and I plan on getting myself some decent running trainers as I'm determined to finish this bloody programme. I'm pretty frustrated that I didn't get a better crack at it last time, because I was adhering pretty well to the routine until my knee gave way. But that's just made me more determined this time - so watch this space!

Also, any suggestions for trainers I should be getting with a dodgy knee? I need ones that are going to absorb the impact of putting my foot down hard on the ground. I'm willing to ebay!

Why not try doing as long a run as you can and see how far you get? I was surprised I was able to do it. Not that it means you can't, but it might just be worth seeing how far you're at anyway, it'll probably show you that you can go further than you think.

Only just noticed this thread! I did my first run of week 3 today. I had to take about 2-3 weeks off due to new trainers cutting a hole in my ankle after my first week 2 run (which I did twice back to back with new trainers, not a great idea I know) and I went out and did week 2 runs on Sunday and Monday. I struggled on Sunday but am fine now. The only thing today was that my calves and feet were being total ********s! I have tight tendons in my calves but they've been fine with regular exercise and stretching. Today they just wouldn't ease up and my feet were aching. I reckon it must have been dehydration, can't find any other reason. Oh well! I really want to progress through the weeks now I've got back to it!

I have just done my first run of the C25K (and just found this thread, yay ) and I was just looking for some kind of reassurance that the first one killed everybody? I thought my head and chest were going to burst, even more so just after I stopped running than when I was actually running. I have just realised that I haven't had as much to eat today as I thought I had, so am going to comfort myself with the fact that I was probably undernourished (not a great way to start) and that it has to be better next time :L

I'm also going to have to find another route; running past my house just as Laura was telling me I only had two running stints left nearly broke my heart :L

I really want to lose some weight, but more importantly become fitter and more energetic doing this - I'm hopefully going to Bristol for Uni next year and would really like to be in a position where I feel confident enough to join some sort of sports team (just a fun one, not a serious one), perhaps netball? The only sport I could ever do to any extent at all :L

Also, it's pretty hilly there and I know you'd get used to it pretty quickly, but trying to make conversation with new people whilst walking somewhere, but running out of breath trying to talk doesn't really create a great image of yourself does it? :L

It would be really great if I could find somebody who's just starting this too and would like to tell me that I'm not too horribly unfit, just suffering like all first time runners??
I also started this week! Same day as you too, let's be running buddies!

I was the same as you in my first run. The first day I found the hardest, I had to pause the podcast after my 3rd run to catch my breath, I felt like I was going to explode. But the second and third (today!) run was good, I ran and walked exactly when Laura told me to. The key is, as someone already mentioned, to jog slowly, not go too fast. And running is already improving my posture!!

Think I may just give that a go I'd love to see how I get on I mean with the 8 minutes I felt like I could've gone for a bit longer

It is honestly amazing how I'm now jogging for 8 minutes at a good pace when 4 weeks ago I could barely do one minute without dying!

    Yes!

I know, I've run more slowly on my second and third runs and they went much better; I've actually felt quite positive after both of them! Though today, near the end my neigbour drove past and when I got back, she was talking to my dad and told me I looked like I was in agony and she didn't recognise me :L

I don't know whether it's actually done much yet, but I'm sure it will do soon! Running for 20 mins in 4 weeks time still seems a bit crazy, but I'm sure that if other people can do it, I can do it too!

Yeah you genuinely look a bit like you think you're in baywatch you have to go so slowly at the beginning , but as I say, you improve remarkably quickly! Thanks.
Haha, well I've tried going much more slowly for the second and third runs of the week and it went much better, so thankyou very much I was very pleased with how much less it hurt; I'm not sure how much longer I could have forced myself to continue with it if it had continued to hurt as much as Monday

I got up super early today to go running before it got too hot and I was pretty impressed with how I'm doing this week. Actually quite looking forward to seeing if I can manage the 20 mins next time!

I did week 1 again today because I was accompanying my dad/bullying him into starting C25K! It's unbelievable how easy it was for me to do week 1 now that I've moved on to week 3 in my own programme.

W2D1 done! Going into it, I believed it would be very easy to do, and I was right. Next time I will run a little bit faster.

I just finished my W2D1 and found it pretty easy too! Feels so good already knowing that just a week ago, W1D1 absolutely killed me
