    Ashburne Hall 2011/2012

    Ashburne Hall 2011/2012

Check out what I stumbled upon Pics of Ashburne by a (ex?) student. Album has pics of the building, rooms, dining area, library and common room: http://community.webshots.com/album/560620028KfIjEw

Common Thread for Ashburne Hall Offer Holders

It'd be nice to 'meet' everyone here before getting there.

Does anyone have any idea what the room codes stand for? I know L, MW etc refer to the Wings, but what do the rest of the numbers mean?

What about info for each of the wings?

    Anyway, to get this started:-

    Room: LC.2.14
    Studying: LLB

    Hi!

    Room: WA.G.04
    Studying: Engineering

I believe the first number/letter is the floor you are on, the second is your room number.

Heya! I just received the accommodation offer:
LB.1.17 and I am an exchange student from China, staying for one semester.

I am informed that my room in Ashburne Hall is a standard room with basin. Is it possible for me to change for a smaller room? Do I have to appeal online?

BTW, I am curious about the food there...And anyone knows whether we have a shared kitchen for cooking?

    Thank you guys!

As far as I remember, the small rooms at Ashburne Hall are for Post Grads only, I'm not sure though, email them and they will guide you better.

I'm going to be in Ashburne, but I can't remember my room number off the top of my head. I'm a postgrad (MA Jewish Studies). I've been out of university for three years, and I've started to get really excited about returning.

I was in Ashburne in my first year (2 years ago) and loved it...

There are 3 wings: Lees Wing (L), Mary Worthington (M.W) and Ward (W)

and the second number is the floor, and the last your room number

It's got more girls than boys...but it's on the same plot with Sheavyn House (self catered and 50/50 boys and girls) and all your socials are together...so I've ended up with more guy than girl friends anyway!!

I was a Freshers' Rep last year and the Netball Captain this year...so if you have any questions, just give me a shout!!

And be excited...Freshers' is THE best year of your life!

Here's the freshers group for this year

By the way, Ashburne rooms are ridiculously big. You have nothing to worry about space-wise, the rooms can easily entertain a good 6-7 people without being crowded. It's got it's own little library which is brilliant when John Rylands is rammed in exam week and it means you can get wifi sat out on the green. It's catered food and there's a big dining hall but there are little shared kitchenettes for weekends, but they're nothing too amazing

    Hi!

I figured that Ashburne being all-girls or having more girls than guys was in the past? Am I wrong?

    ...
Thanks for the info on Ashburne!

Would you happen to know exactly how many people to a kitchenette? And also, the acc guide says that breakfast and dinner are provided during weekdays and it mentions a cash cafe for weekends...that just means that we have to find our own food during weekends, right? I wondered why they needed to mention the cash cafe at all

I honestly don't know about how many to a kitchenette (I actually lived in Sheavyn, not Ashburne), but I can imagine it'd be four or five as the absolute minimum, I don't know how many kitchenettes there are but it's usually just a case of rule of closest. You have to feed yourself lunchtime and weekends, there are card things you can put money on and spend at the uni outlets or just hit sainsbury's and do it yourself.

Cards? Like cash cards? Are they a cheaper way to get food or something?
