Possibilities of Financing

Hello,

I have few questions about financing my stay at a University from Scotland.
I will start the first year this autumn.
I am from Romania and I have never lived in UK nor my parents did.

Am I eligible to receive Maintenance Loan or Maintenance Grant?
What financial support can I receive except Tuition Fee support?
What other possibilities to finance my stay at University did I have?

Thank you
Tuition fee loan only

Could you tell me why? Because I am not an UK citizen?

Yes.

Through UK funding, as far as I'm aware, no.

So any student from EU (not from UK) cannot cover all its financial needs at a university from UK (Scotland more precise) by itself, without involving its parents ?
or getting a job.

And if i get a job, how many hours did I have to work?
How much I could earn (in average) ?
I could work from the first day of my arrival or I have to wait a time to get the permission to work?

I'm gonna answer you as I'm very into it. You need to have a yellow card in order to have the right to work as a student. You can expect a salary of 200-300 pounds with about 2-3 hours per day. I know it's crap but any income is welcome for us. The thing is that in order to receive your YC quickly you have to make an appointment at Croydon for an interview. If everything's okay with your application you'll receive the YC in the same day. If you don't wish to go to Croydon, you can do this whole procedure by mail but it will take like 4 months. The worst part is that you need bank statements from last 3 months showing that you can maintain yourself. We're talking about 2000-3000 pounds.

Any other questions, ask me here.

Useful information... thanks.

I have a few more questions.

Did I have to work every day ?
And what jobs are we talking about ?
Are these very tiring ?
Will I have enough time to study if i work ?

1) No, you don't have to. But some jobs may require to. It totally depends on the job.

2) Waiter, porter, dish washer, stuff like these. Jobs that you don't need experience for.

3) I wouldn't think so. Though I can't tell you for sure, cause I'm not a student in UK.

4) It depends on your course. For Medicine and harder courses, no. For Computer Science and easier courses, yes.
wow an expert on medicine and computer science courses!

get outta here!

You are only eligible for a Tuition Fee support, however, as an EU citizen you are eligible to work in the UK too. The number of hours you can work whilst studying in the UK needs to be confirmed, you can find out more on this website:
