I worked out that with the mark I think I got in C4 (Monday) I could have got no marks in M1 and still got an A*...
As long as I got 86% in C4 yesterday, I don't need to go to M2 on Monday and still get an A*.

And people wonder why I'm doing English at uni and not maths

Don't understand English exams at all, have you already got the results for part of it?
Coursework results I would assume, some people are told their marks by teachers.

    In C4 I needed -13 UMS for an A. Or 80 for an A*.
I already have my grade in English literature because we did the exam and coursework a funny way round so I know I'm fine there.
In Spanish I need 68% for an A.
And I don't need a grade in further maths at all to meet my offer!

A-levels are normally done in 2 main sections AS and A2, and then these sections are spread over summer and January exams. And then your results from each test are combined accordingly to give you your overall result. So someone could have taken 3/4 of their modules and scored 100% on all of them (300/400) giving them 75% overall, so they would only need 20/100 on their last module (bringing them to 320/400) to get an A overall

Ah right, do all exams have coursework that counts towards your final grade? Here it's only a few that you'd need folio's for, like English or Art.

Quite a lot of the coursework doesn't even count towards the final mark either, it's marked pass/fail and you have to pass it all to get your qualification at the end.

Not all of them - English generally does but languages have oral exams instead of coursework (actually some exam boards might do coursework as well, dunno), Psychology and some other subjects are January and summer modules and some subjects are purely summer exams ().

    Wow, that's harsh!

This makes no sense. I thought most subjects share the UMS evenly throughout the two years how can someone do well is one year, and do poorly in another and still get a great grade?

The UMS overall is out of 400, and the boundary for an A is 320 - so say if you got full marks in 3 exams, you'd have 300 UMS - thus only needing 20 UMS in the last exam i.e. a U to reach an A overall.

I now see that someone above explained it in exactly the same way :p:

I think you have a good point actually, judging by the answers the people who are in this situation are the ones who want A*s so obviously high achievers and the people who must have worked really hard on everything else.

Good luck for your exam on Monday
A* in Maths and Further Maths would make my life! Not stressing over it, the main thing I've been focussing on is meeting the requirements for my Uni, anything above would be a bonus and that but yeah, A* would be amazing

    Thank you

Well in my friend's case she got full marks in the coursework unit in A2 so so essentially for full marks in 70% of her A Level before she did her exam.

In my case it's much the same but I got nearly 90% in my AS year and then 90% in the coursework unit. And with the people saying they need 3 marks on their final exam it's because they have done maths or science where there's 3 units per year so they've excelled in 2/3 units and so don't need to do so well on their final unit.

    Hope that makes sense!

EDIT: someone just explained this more eloquently above me....

Need an E in psychology to get an A thanks to previous papers, I want an A* desperately though so hoping I can still get that.

History I need a total of 80 UMS across both my coursework and exam to get a B (which is what I need) which would be two Ds, to get an A I need a C and a B (which hopefully I'll get).

I haven't worked it out for music because I have no idea what the marks add up to!

Erm, a bit different because obviously at uni, but I only needed 49% to get a 2.1 in one module.

Yeah, another GCSE student peeking into the thread. I needed to get 61 UMS (so a C) for an A* in History on my most recent exam, and 21 UMS for an A, which is a U, I think. :awesome:

I need -9/100 in C4 on Monday for an A

    ...But 80/100 for an A*
Nice, I needed -15/100 ^^ Gotta love UMS

But 80 for A*... 95% difference, seems quite harsh but oh well
