Do you think we should allocate this thread as something like the "Tattoo Appreciation Soc. Chat Thread", and then create another thread purely for discussing tats/talking about them/advising? :holmes:

Cheers for adding the FAQ request to the OP. Any chance of adding a couple of lines before it to the effect of "this is the discussion thread for the Tattoo Appreciation Soc" etc?

So we have a thread for members of the soc, then another for people perhaps looking for their first etc? :holmes:

Which team are you though, tbh? :ninja:

Well, not so much a thread for members as much as a spam-free thread, where all that's in there is questions about tattoos, pictures of tattoos and discussion around that as well as sketches/ideas for new designs etc.

This thread isn't that far off topic, it's just that if we divulge into chatting for a few pages, people come into the thread and think it's purely spam. Separating the two into two threads: one for general chat and discussion, the other for purely tattoo stuff, might be the easiest way to ensure that people aren't put off? :holmes:

Ahh I gotcha So just a little chat one to go along side the straight foward, non spammed page

And I'd be both :ninja: I'm a member and also sketching

    Seems like a good idea:holmes:

Sounds like a good idea to me, we can have the FAQs and Guides posted at the start of the actual tattoo thread for easy reference, then the other thread for general chit-chat..

    Smithy's Tattoo Blog - 01/07/11 (Part 2)
Cheers for posting that mate. I've been really unsatisfied with the tattoo places around Derby and Stoke and with Birmingham only being a half hour away, that place could well come into consideration when I get my first

    Smithy's Tattoo Blog - 01/07/11 (Part 2)

Studio Feature - Modern Body Art, Birmingham, UK.

Firstly, an introduction to Modern Body Art, the studio that does my tattoos and piercings. They have a great team of talented artists as well as regular guest spots by international artists, most recently Ivana, who does some beautiful colour work:

I think the lack of a noticeable outline really gives a 'painted on' look..

Now some work from Jo Harrison who co-owns the studio. Jo regularly tours so she can be hard to get hold of for studio work. But it's worth the wait...

And I had to show this, voted 'best use of a nipple in a tattoo' ...

Matt Hunt co-owns the studio with Jo. He's responsible for my full sleeve. He does a lot of Japanese / Asian work, but is very versatile:

Andy Crytalz specialises in 'dotwork' and symmetry tattoos. Very intricate work with amazing results!

Tom Devine does a variety of styles, all very good mind..

Mark Barnett does some amazing black and grey work, especially portraits..

Rachel McCarthy will be doing my next tattoo (a woman and rose in you're interested ) her work is very nice..

And finally, their apprentice-come-tattooist, Glenn Patrick:

All in all a great studio and I urge anyone in Birmingham or the West Midlands looking for some high quality work to pay them a visit

    Info:

    Name: Modern Body Art.

Location: Corporation Street, Birmingham, West Midlands, UK.

    Tel: 0121 236 0753

    Email: info@modernbodyart.co.uk

    Website: http://modernbodyart.co.uk/

Artists: Jo Harrison, Matt Hunt, Andy Crytalz, Tom Devine, Mark Barnett, Rachel McCarty, Glenn Patrick plus guest artists.

Services offered: Tattoos, piercings, laser tattoo removal, cosmetic tattoos.

Type of tattoos: Basically all styles of work undertaken. Specialise in custom work.

Rates: Various, I know Matt currently charges £80/ph and Rachel £70/ph.

Hope you enjoyed that write up, I'll try to do features on more studios in the near future :pingu:
    Wow, amazing work!

No worries dude, it's definitely worth the trip..

Speaking of Stoke though, have you checked out One Shot Charlies? I know of the guy that owns it, Lee Pound, and his work looks pretty cool!

Lee Pound is solid, his style isn't for everyone, and is also immitated by a lot of artists (not as well as him) but I love it. Reminds me of old school Sailor Jerry tatts
