I wish I could make my own cider, I imagine it's cheaper than buying crates of Kopparberg and Taurus

It's dirt cheap yeah. And a lot of fun to experiment with - I'd definitely suggest giving it a go. :yep:

I'd love to, but I'm scared I'd end up poisoning myself/anyone who drinks it!

Nah, you'll be fine - I've never heard of a single case of somebody getting poisoned from homebrew cider (and trust me if it were possible to poison yourself with cider I'd probably have done it by now ). It's not like distilling where there is a genuine danger of making poison booze if you do it wrong (I think the poison is actually a byproduct, and the trick is in getting rid of it right).

I may have to give it a try then :O I don't suppose you have any links to ways of doing it do you? I know I could google it but then I wouldn't be guaranteed that what they're telling me to do is right

It must be so awesome to own a brand of cider though, you'd be able to drink your own drink all the time and see other people loving it too!

    Thanks!

12% seems pretty high though compared to what I normally have  Would less yeast lower this? (assuming it does)

Think I may have to start this as soon as exams are out of the way!

While I haven't actually got around to checking, I estimate the percentage is more like 7-9%. The easiest way to lower the percentage IMO is to make it up as it tells you to, then once it is complete mix in some more apple juice. If you have 1L 10% cider for instance, and you add 250ml, you reduce the strength of the cider to 8%. Some commercial cider is made like this - made at a nice percentage, then mixed with apple juice to lower the percentage to 4-5%.

Anyone tried the new peach and apricot Rekorderlig? I think it's quite nice, although not my favourite flavour. For now I think it's only available from tescos and they seem to sell out pretty quickly, but it's worth getting a bottle if you see one.

Might do a bit of cider brewing this week, it's been too long since I last fermented something...

Has anyone tried New Forest Cider (from their shop in Burley)?

Picked up a bottle of sweet, a bottle of medium and a bottle of perry while we were on holiday down there, we also got a couple of little spice bag things so we can try spiced cider - do you know if their stuff is any good?

    QUESTION:

Would anyone be interested in meeting up somewhere in the vicinity of Nottingham to have a sample of the Wetherspoons cider festival (11-29 July)? Definites so far would be me and rmhumphries.

I don't know about that brand of cider, but I've tried making spiced cider before and it was really nice. :yy: Admittedly I was already fairly pissed at the time of trying it, but hopefully that won't have clouded my judgement too much...

Be sure and report back on your discoveries.

I should say 14th/15th would be best - my dad's birthday the following weekend and the weekend after I'm off on holiday.

For a small number of people, I can even offer accommodation for a night so you don't need to go back same day if wanted.

    Warm spiced cider is

Currently have a couple bottles of Biddendens singing out to me, no Sultana, no drinking on your own at this time of night.

Luminous blue cider! :woo: Sweet with a slightly bitter aftertaste, doesn't taste all that much like blueberries, more generic pear. Nice, could probably drink a few right after each other - if only because the beginning of each sip is nicer than the aftertaste. But 300 calories a bottle? Bugger...there goes my diet.
I've tried this now (two for £2 in Lidl) plus the pink flavour. Was fairly nice, even if it did turn your tongue blue.
