Re: The Cider SocietyUnfortunately we're not looking to have as much fruit this year. Might still have enough spare though - we've got about 10 apple/pear trees!(Original post by superwolf)
Neither - I'm just buying juice from the supermarket and using that. However for my next experiment I'm going to build upon a previous trial of apple juice mixed with homemade mixed berry jam which worked quite well, and try stewing cooking apples and then mixing the resultant mush with water and sugar.
I'd love to have access to all that cheap fruit and have a press, but pretty much completely infeasible for me.
If you're into DIY I believe you can make your own press though - here's one on instructables (looks a bit complicated, but I expect there are simpler versions out there).
Yeah I did think about making one, but I don't like the bottle jack designs and trying to find a big jackscrew works out quite expensive anyway. Annoyingly I just missed a good press on ebay!
How are you finding your cider? -
Re: The Cider SocietyWhat other ciders have you done? Had a nice Ginger cider at Spoon's cider festival recently(Original post by GirasoleL)
Recently made a ginger and lemon cider, unfortunatly I may have put in a little too much lemon, cause its quite sharp and lemony. I think if I make it again next time I'll only put a tiny amount or just do a plain ginger cider instead.

Re: The Cider SocietyApart from the lemon and ginger I've only done just a normal apple cider previously, but recently I've decided to experiment more with adding other flavours.(Original post by rmhumphries)

Although my boyfriend recently made an orange cider, as he's into brewing too and that was pretty nice.
Oh, I've seen that ginger cider at spoons, didn't get around to trying it, but I do like a nice ginger cider. Might give it a taste next time.

Re: The Cider SocietyThe Wurzels played one of the local pubs a few weeks ago.(Original post by superwolf)
Just bought myself a Wurzels greatest hits album.
Will be singing along to songs about scrumpy and farm equipment in no time!

Re: The Cider SocietyThat would be awesome.(Original post by OU Student)
The Wurzels played one of the local pubs a few weeks ago.
You'd have to get totally ratarsed, naturally.

Re: The Cider SocietyLucky you!(Original post by OU Student)
There's another (!) cider festival in Plymouth now. May go there next week (Brass Monkey) and see what they have.
Enjoy yourself, and be sure to report back.
