Re: Geography applicants for entry 2012 :]
Yayyy some fellow Geographers!

Okayyy this is my situation -
a)Geography, Biology, Chemistry and Business Studies (Dropped after AS, thank god!!!)
b) Hopefully a BSc in Geography.
c)Dundee, Aberystwyth, Plymouth, Hull and any of either Kingston, Oxford Brookes or Nottingham Trent! -
Re: Geography applicants for entry 2012 :]
1)Biology Geography economics (AS maths) AAAB at AS, but 98% and 97% in economics and geography

2)Bsc in geography
c) lol i don't know, QUB , apart from that I can't see myself parting with fees 3X the cost of over here! Should get good A2 so maybe Durham or somewhere that's worth the debt!
Part of the eco-committee, team leader of a green project, school trip to iceland and passion for development in human geography and parts of physical geography all in the PS ! -
Re: Geography applicants for entry 2012 :]I was really surprised as well! I've got to work incredibly hard then on my C4 exam to get 84/100 for my maths A* and I'm pretty much there for my Geography place(Original post by RaspberryHaze)
I'm glad I found some other geographers!
1. Geography, History, French (and I did Biology at AS)
2. Human
3. Cambridge, Durham (absolutely in love with it!), Exeter, Southampton, Leeds
But I was pretty surprised by Durham saying that they were asking for A*AA next year- was anyone else?

Re: Geography applicants for entry 2012 :]
I do Biology Chemsitry and Geography and I did maths AS but hated it and dropped it as soon as i could!
I will probably apply for Bsc as I am better at that side of the couse but I find human geography way more interesting
I am thinking of applying to: Newcastle, Birmingham, Southampton, Sheffield Royal Holloway or Loughborough for the Bsc, but also the Geography and International development course at Sussex lookes interesting... -

Slight change of course choice for me, and now on my gap year
1. Geography, Biology, Chemistry, Maths
2. Population & Geog/BA/Geog & Planning/MA (for each uni below respectively)
3. Southampton, Queen Mary, Newcastle and Dundee are my definite 4. Then just 1 more but still undecided. -

Re: Geography applicants for entry 2012 :]Hello, i'm applying for geography in the next couple of months and just wondered what a graduate actually thought about their degree, e.g. did you enjoy it, was it what you expected and did you do a BA or BSc? thats something i'm struggling on at the moment:/ also what job are you wanting to go into with your degree?(Original post by nikki_louise)
I've just graduated so if anyone wants general info about geography degrees or some help on their application I will attempt to help. I can also give far more info on geography at southampton as well

Re: Geography applicants for entry 2012 :]I know this is a very late reply, I rarely log on, but thanks for the advice!(Original post by DellaLouise)
Thought I'd offer a bit of advice
When it comes to BA/BSc Geography, both courses have fairly similar content except BA expects you to take slightly more human modules and vice versa for BSc. At most Uni's I talked to you can swap to the other course quite simply so don't feel like you should be expected to know exactly which one you want to take. In terms of your Personal Statement (unless you are thinking of just taking BA Human Geog or BSc Physical Geog) I would try to discuss both Human and Physical as it will show you off to be a more rounded Geography student.
Hope my ramble helps

Re: Geography applicants for entry 2012 :]I did the BA. One thing I would note is that generally the BA and Bsc year are the same for the first year at unis and therefore you get the opputunity to swap from the ba to bsc if needed for the second and third year since thats when you really specialise. So if you pick the wrong one for you then you could swap- might be a good idea to email the uni's your interested in to find out?(Original post by Mattt)

Also because you often get to pick modules you could have a good mix of both human and physical geogaphy if you want to keep both. There will also be a bit of maths and computer work for the GIS so you dont have to worry to much if you are a bit worried about picking between a BA and Bsc
I loved it. I studied so many different things that I hadn't even touched at a level. The chance to pick modules you are interested in means you are actually studying what you want not what the exam board wants. I love how in depth the lecturers were and how the stuff we were learning about was actually researched by the people teaching it so they had a real knowledge.
As for jobs, I'm going into teaching but tbh there are so many avenues you could go into. I know people that have gone on to work in the graduate programme for supermarkets, go into planning, transport, further study such as phds and so much more. So many of the graduate programmes just offer for a 2.1 in any decent degree from a decent uni etc. We had people come and do career talks that were in accounting and HR as well. You could also go to work for the national statistic office as well or for NGOs or the UN even. there is a lot of scope for graduate jobs with a degree such as geography because it is so broad in content.
Hope that helps. -
Re: Geography applicants for entry 2012 :]1. Geography/Religious Studies/ Pschyology ( also did biology as )(Original post by heavencanwait_)
I couldn't find any threads for this, if there is one feel free to tell me!
Anyway..
This is just for a general chat, and to talk about what people are doing etc ^.^
And..
1) What subjects are you currently studying?
2) What degree are you considering? (human, physical, both BSc/BA/MSci, with study abroad etc)
3) Where are you thinking of applying?
For me:
1) Biology, Chemistry and full Geography a-level next year because I chose wrong things.. dropped/dropping - Physics, Maths, General Studies. And I'm doing an EPQ on Yellowstone (:
2) BSc, with a year abroad in America hopefully.
3) Looking at Manchester, Lancaster, Edinburgh, St Andrews, Hull, Liverpool, Durham, UCL...
2. Not sure yet....
3. Cambridge, Ucl, Lse, Nottingham and Royal Holloway

Re: Geography applicants for entry 2012 :]
So glad to meet other geographers! I'm the only one in my school who is applying for Geography... When I tell others they stare at me blankly and say "Why??". Aiya.
1. Currently doing the IB Diploma. Subjects: Geography, English, Business and Management, Maths, Spanish and Biology.
2. Geography with International Relations (BA)
3. St Andrews, Edinburgh, Royal Holloway, Durham, Queen Mary... I'm not sure yet really.
What do you guys plan to do after university? I'm stuck on this... :s -
Re: Geography applicants for entry 2012 :]
1. Geography, Maths, Economics and did Spanish AS
2. BA (Human) Geography possibly with study year abroad in spain/south america to use my spanish
3. Cambridge, Sheffield, Birmingham and probably Leeds and Leicester.
Got 2 days to finish PS because of early internal deadline at college for cambridge.
It seems a lot of people do either biology or economics with their geography. interesting.Last edited by mespannerhanz; 21-09-2011 at 17:44. -
